Default The denial, ignorance, and downright stupidity of fashion designers

Please watch this video.....I literally was tearing my hair out over the absolute ignorance of some of the people being interviewed ( ESPECIALLY LagerFELD....I LOoooooathe this lowlife) Saying that models should be treated like Canvases and that their lovely bones and skeletal apearance is natural and that NONE of the models have eating disorders because their faces "look" healthy and beautiful has just left me feeling nauseous. I am sure someone thought the same thing about Ana Caroline Reston right before she dropped dead. The fashion world will never change as long as people like Lagerfeld are still running the show. What a PRO-ANA freak. Shame on you.!!!
On the other hand , there are a few handful of people who actually have a grasp of the seriousness of this problem and would like to see change but i fear these people are a minority in the industry. Just watch for yourself and prepare to get angry.

When you look back at the supermodels of the early 90s (Christy, Linda, Naomi, etc), they actually had figures worth having AND they worked runway.

Yes, some of these girls are much younger and some are naturally skinny, but certainly not all are skinny in a healthy way.

As long as there are legions of girls willing to be so skinny to make it as models, I think it's going to continue. BUT I don't think it was as bad ten years ago as it is now.

The older models had killer bodies! Today the type of models in demand are very strange. I hope it changes someday.

They really need to get a variety of body types on the runways.

Has anyone seen this video yet?

It is very disturbing! These models are all way to thin to the point of death!

^^ those are the photoshopped photos - they have been photoshopped skinny models to look even worse then what they are.

Unfortunately you can hardly tell that they have been Photoshpped because the real thing is almost identical to those images.

One of my roommates in college was a model briefly. She was tall and skinny, sort of gangly. She was told if she wanted to continue to model to lose 10 lbs! She decided to quit, but even she knew that was more than a reasonable amount of weight to lose. When she told me that, I couldn't help but wonder where that weight would have come from. This was in 1997.

Fuck that. I think they give that lose 10 lbs line to every model out there, regardless of whether they really need to or not. I bet you could walk in looking like a sack of bones and they'd tell you to lose 10 lbs.

She already looked like a bag of bones at the time.

Lagerfeld proudly starved himself to a 26 inch waist on what he calls The Karl Lagerfeld Diet. The man lost over 90 pounds in just over a year on it, if that tells you the kind of "healthy lifestyle" he advocates. He did it so he could fit into the kind of crap he designs, and apparently he expects the same dedication to starvation from models.

Such a shame. I really adored Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell's figures back in the day.

Check out this comparison of 24 y.o. Cindy doing runway in 1990, vs. some model now.

Cindy is gorgeous there, but we can safely admit that she's lost a lot of weight since then.

    It's sad.

I agree that there just needs to be more variety on the runway, fat people want to be able to wear designer clothes also!
