Wells Fargo defends, then cancels Vegas junket

Wells Fargo & Co. is canceling a pricey Las Vegas casino junket for employees after a torrent of criticism that it was misusing $25 billion in taxpayer bailout money.

The company initially defended the trip after The Associated Press reported it had booked 12 nights at two of the city's most expensive hotels. But within hours, investigators and lawmakers on Capitol Hill had scorned the bank, and the company canceled.
The conference is a Wells Fargo tradition. Previous all-expense-paid trips have included helicopter rides, wine tasting, horseback riding in Puerto Rico and a private Jimmy Buffett concert in the Bahamas for more than 1,000 of the company's top employees and guests.

    Wouldn't that be considered punishment?

This bugged the crap out of me. Wells Fargo is defending the trip by saying that it has always recognized its top employees. Well these employees need to understand that we are in an economic crisis and that instead of getting their jobs cut, they're only getting their company trip cut!

It is amazing how completely and utterly out of touch with reality these corporations are. Sickening, really.

Can't you build morale some other way, say like Casual Fridays? These corporate asshats just don't get it. The continuing sense of entitlement is just appalling.

Take 'em to Denny's for a treat. Or maybe the all you can eat buffet at whatever place has it on offer. These stories are great and as I said on another thread I hope these misguided statements just keep on a-comin'. They are completely clueless as to how this stuff is viewed by most people.

Right. And it's those same "top employees" who have contributed towards this economic disaster by selling loans to people who can't afford them and executives who encourage the practice in the first place.

These people are so just alien like. It has built over years and years of the rich and "high" society people being put on a pedestal in this country while the hard working regular guys were beneath them.

Today I heard about a UK acquaintance who's been invited on a company freebie to a cheapo tourist resort in Spain (instead of the usual Caribbean). He can still travel Business Class and can take his family too, provided they fly on a budget airline at 6am the next day!
