I haven't read the Shining. I did watch, however, a mini series based on the book that Stephen King wanted made to get over his butthurt over what Kubrick had done to his precious baby. IMHO, the series was too bad for words but it's supposed to be very faithful to the book. You should look it up, it stars Rebecca de Mornay.

Saw it, it was bad ! :p
(liked it better than the movie, but it was at least 10 hours too long ! And I though the acting was terrible, whereas I have to admit Jack Nicholson was terrific in Kubrick's film, he was the only redeeming thing about this movie IMO )

How could you! Only one of the best sci-fi movies of all time! BTW Harrison Ford didn't like it either. He said he had a crap time filming it.

And I really shouldn't throw stones... For some reason I could never get into the Matrix. Not even the first one... I've never even watched the whole thing.
let me put on my turban and join you in the jihad-ing. king, that's just wrong. first fargo, and now blade runner? i think you just want to get your ass whipped, don't you?

And I also hate nearly all Woody Allen films. I dont know how this guy came to be so worshipped and adored but his movies suck.

stephen king is a dick. and he's a crap writer. there, i said it. he needs good directors to make his shit books into good movies. the guy is a good storyteller, i'll give him that, but his writing sucks ass. yes, kubrick deviated from the book. but he deviated in a totally awesome and kick ass way. so much that nowadays, when you mention 'the shining', people automatically think of kubrick's film instead of stephen king's little book.

I can't believe I'm going to admit this (and here, of all places) but my husband and I own all of the box sets for the Bond movies. Even though we've seen every one of them a few times, I struggle to keep them straight. Soooooo, we made an excel spreadsheet and we rated each movie. Yes, yes. We're dorks. Anyway, Casino Royale is the only one that got an A from both of us. (Ok, fine, I gave it an A+)

I don't watch any Woody Allen movies.

I hated 2001 A Space Odyssey - as in can't stay awake long enough to see the entire movie.

I hated Dances with Wolves - all the freaking animals died and they were the best part of the movie.

but one movie I like is Legend with Tom Cruise and I shall never admit that again

I don't dislike King and I love quite a few of his books but I have found that some of the movies made from his stories are actually way better than the books. Not near the same league as The Shining but Chrstine was another one which was very different from book to movie. The movie was a lot more focused on the possessed car in love with its owner and it made for a brilliant scary movie. For years after seeing it I was afraid of old American cars.

I forgot about Chicago. Both the movie and the show are over-rated.

The people mentioning the following movies are smoking crack:
    The Exorcist
    Napoleon Dynamite
    Being There
    The Usual Suspects
    Woody Allen and Kubrick films

And Christian Bale wasn't in Apollo 13, wtf?
