Default Daniel Turducken Stinkerbutt - Therapy Duck

Airplane Passengers Fall in Love With Emotional Support Duck Accompanying Owner With PTSD

AVIANNE TAN,ABC News 18 hours ago

Meet Daniel Turducken Stinkerbutt, aka Daniel the Duck.

He's an emotional support animal for 37-year-old Carla Fitzgerald, who has been battling post-traumatic stress disorder ever since a bad accident in 2013.

Daniel rose to fame this weekend when he accompanied Fitzgerald on two airplane flights — one from her hometown of Milwaukee to Charlotte, North Carolina, and one from Charlotte to Asheville, North Carolina.

"Everyone just took notice of him and fell in love," she said. "I mean, he's an adorable, funny and sweet little guy. He was very well behaved at the airport and during the flight.

"I think his little red shoes and Captain America diaper were also really well received," Fitzgerald added with a laugh.

It was Fitzgerald's first time flying since the 2013 accident, she said.

Fitzgerald said she was "incredibly nervous" — given that "just leaving the house can be terrifying" — but Daniel's "hugs and kisses" gave her the "comfort and confidence" she needed to make it through.

She added that Daniel has been a help to her "in so many other ways." For example, she said, he can tell when she's about to have a panic attack and even puts his feet on her chest as a cue to lie down.

She said her doctor has written her a letter attesting that Daniel is an integral part of herPTSD treatment. She added that she used the letter to get clearance for Daniel to join her on their recent flights.

"Some people have therapy dogs. Others have cats. I have a duck," Fitzgerald told ABC News. "I hope more people can accept that a duck can make a very good, loving and loyal companion and support animal."

I love the picture of him looking out of the plane window. I wonder what's going through his pea-sized brain.

    I think it's weird.

And I think wild animals ought to stay wild and not suffer the indignity of Santa Claus sweaters.

Apparently, ducks make good companion pets as they bond with humans quite easily. They are very dog-like in many ways. I've never had a duck but have known people who do.

And the Santa sweater made me laugh.

I want a therapy duck now. I am not even kidding. He is adorable and I would have a companion more intelligent to talk to than some of my coworkers. I can just imagine how much stress this would alleviate for me.

I knew ducks could be friendly, and I've had some come right up to my front door and hang out before, but I didn't realize how intuitive they were to humans.

There's a Facebook page, I think it's called Mr T and Bee. It's a family whole lives with ducks and the little boy has bonded with a really cute one. I'm surprised at the house because it's so clean and orderly. This duck is amazing.

LOL. I saw this somewhere else and guess I didn't read closely, but was wondering about the whole bird poop issue. But aha! A Captain America diaper.

It's pretty ridiculous, but I'm down with it. The only thing is that duck hugs seem like they would be very .... beaky.

How do I get my kid a therapy duck?
My grandma had two ducks I "grew up" with when I'd visit. They were mischevious and so fun!
