Jeggings are the pants that just won't quit. Since Topshop introduced the term en masse in May of last year, the bottoms have crawled from the back racks and dredges of e-shops to the forefront of our nation's shopping consciousness. Even Wall Street has caught on Goldman Sachs most notably. The bank just came out with a very important official back-to-school trend report that identifies jeggings as a strong seller, which caused Business Insider to imagine Lloyd Blankfein wearing the jeggings himself. So for all of you wondering what he looks like wearing an acid-wash pair in his natural habitat, our photo editors have put that together for you here. And he is rocking those pants like pants have never been rocked before. So figure-flattering!

So basically these things are the mutant result of crossing denim jeans with leggings...

Just what the fuck? Acid washed jeans-looking leggings? For fuck sake.

Never heard of 'em. I do love leggings for wearing around the house when the weather gets colder.

So, someone's rediscovered stretch jeans, and given them a stupid name?

Jeggings used to be what much older women bought when they just didn't give a shit anymore and wanted to embrace the matronly.

Unless you have a perfect body, these things are gonna make most women look fat or out of proportion. And you better have perfect legs to carry these off too, as any and every lump or imperfection will be maximized.

Why would you wear these out of the house..in public? Most American women(and men) would look like shit in these.

I just don't get how they could be popular. Is it just twiggy little tweens who are buying them?

*and yes, I will admit it..back in the day..I LOVED acid washed jeans!

I admit I purchased one pair of dark jeggings for fall, they look great under boots and provide more of a sleek look since other jeans sometimes tend to bunch when you're pulling the boots on or zipping them up. These are so slim that they don't. But I would never, ever wear them by themselves, that's not my style.

They're not as unflattering as you'd think because the material is heavier and stiffer than plain old leggings. I had a black denim version with stirrups that I wore with boots. As long as whatever top you wear hits below the butt, they're fairly flattering. (Boots are the ONLY legitimate reason for stirrup pants, BTW.)

I can't see them on men at all, not even emaciated emo band members with floppy hair. Unless they went commando AND, ahem, tucked, it would be a bumpy proposition.
