that can be just as bad though.
i was just talking to a friend who's on the verge of divorcing her husband. no kids though, thankfully, which makes ending things less complicated. she just married the wrong man for her, and vice versa. in part because she's never worked through her issues from growing up with her parents who had a very volatile marriage and multiple affairs (her father) and mental health issues (her mother, in part from being married to her husband). they're still together, and still miserable. just resigned about it. she wishes her parents had split up and that she would be less fucked up if they had, and had spent less time exposed to their unhappy relationship as her model of what marriage is supposed to look like. the only reason they didn't was because her mother was too economically dependent.

i tend to think the same when i look at my cousins on my dad's side. his brother has had addiction and mental health issues his whole life, severe ones. instead of leaving, his wife is too spoiled to fend for herself and too catholic to ever even think about the sin of divorce. they have this horrible co-dependent relationship and it's deeply damaged their kids. i doubt a divorce would have been as bad.

tl;dr - case by case basis lol
also, the death analogy is probably correct. i never personally lived through a divorce but my dad's sudden death meant sudden trauma, moving, different home, different economic circumstances, my mom suddenly alone, a huge disruption in every sense of the word.

i agree - i don't see the point of staying together.

i think the best thing you can do is try to keep it clean and move on. but i also say this as someone who has never divorced and whose parents stayed together.

Let's chat about the elephant in the room.....a boy named Laurie? My name is Laurie, and I am not a fan of it, let alone for a boy. FFS.

i was surprised too but wikipedia tells me it's a unisex name and there's even a list of illustrious male lauries.

When I was younger, I was in a club and this guy asked my name, I told him M-, he nodded and said Beverly.
I corrected him, said no, M-, he again said Beverly.
It took about 4 rounds for me to finally say "Oh your name is Beverly " I felt so stupid

Laurie is (or was) a common boy's name in Australia. There are a ton of old men named Laurie, even a former Olympic swimming coach (no joke) Laurie Lawrence.
    Be excellent to each other.
