Default Janelle Monae Scoops Up Hollywood Hills Midcentury Gem

    SELLER: Brandon Creed
LOCATION: Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, Calif.
    PRICE: $3.9 million
SIZE: Two houses totaling 3,403 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 5.25 bathrooms

Self-described “indentured android” turned acclaimed singer-songwriter (“Dirty Computer,” “The Electric Lady”) turned breakout blockbuster actor (“Hidden Figures,” “Moonlight,” the upcoming “Antebellum”) Janelle Monáe has splashed out just south of $3.9 million on her very own residential Wondaland, a characteristically eclectic and unmistakably unique midcentury compound tucked deep into the Hollywood Hills. The property’s seller was Brandon Creed, the high-powered music manager known for representing artists like Mark Ronson, Troye Sivan and Lizzo.

the previous owner really leaned into the whole rustic, reclaimed wood trend, didn't he?
it's a really cute house though i'd have to strip all that trendoid shit off and restore this to its midcentury bones.

The outdoor setting is the only thing I like about it. I don't know, it looks like the inside should be gutted and redesigned.

I like the kitchen because it's NOT mixy/matchy, and I like reclaimed wood. But $39M? Come on.

I cringe at that wood. I just imagine trying to keep that sanitary. Our old farm had weathered barnboard installed as countertops by the previous owner. It looks like crap and it cannot be cleaned.

It's cute for a couple. Too small and cluttered for kids.

well, it's 2 houses. so maybe they will tear one down and then expand the other? a lot of people around here have more than one house on their property. sometimes it's due to the topography. other times, it's to house an au pair or family member.

This inside of this house is so ugly that I'm having trouble seeing the bones. I'm not a minimalist but this is too cluttered looking even for me.

I like wood, but all this is hideous and very dated looking. That combination of "natural" wood and white painted cabinets and stainless steel in the kitchen is gag inducing. And the wood is warm and the walls are a cool grey...I have to stop talking about it now.

And what is that thing on the patio? Is it a water filled firepit? A mosquito farm? A wishing well? Is it plexiglass? I don't get it.
