Default producer Robert Newmyer dead at age 49

TRAINING DAY producer ROBERT NEWMYER has died of a heart attack. He was 49.

The film-maker died on Monday (12DEC05) of a heart attack triggered by an asthma attack while we was working out at a Toronto, Canada, gym.

Newmyer started his film career as vice president of production and acquisitions at Columbia Pictures, before forming Outlaw Productions in the late 1980s with partner JEFFREY SILVER.

Silver says, "He liked to move people. He liked to make them laugh, and he liked to make them cry.

"We formed Outlaw to make film fares that the studio didn't know how to make - lower budget, edgy."

During his career, Newmyer produced SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE (89), THE SANTA CLAUSE (94), DON JUAN DE MARCO (95) and THREE TO TANGO (99).

Sorry he's dead, but this quote irks me:

"We formed Outlaw to make film fares that the studio didn't know how to make - lower budget, edgy."
Yes, quite. You're all so dreadfully edgy.
