I've actually contemplated her but the more I see her the more I like to think of her as asexual. I kinda think of her like I do Queen Latifah.

Wow. I'm an actress (struggling/aspiring) and very straight. Does this mean my name will show up on this board if I ever make it big?? LOL Good Lord, almost every name is Hollywood is on here as gay or possibly gay/bi. Now, the obvious (Cruise, Gylenhall, Travolta, Knight, Bass) can't be avoided. But really, for the rest is it because they're in the limelight? Or do you think the same way about your neighbors and friends? I have great gaydar. I regularly point it towards people I meet. It's a 50/50 split with mine.

Keanu is a 'mo. A Toronto casting agent was in an acting class with him in the 80's and said he was openly gay. It was only when he started to get somewhere with his career that he went back into the closet because homophobia would have killed his career before it got fully started, unfortunately.

Definitely gay. A Toronto film critic outed him at a party too - her sister worked with him on a film and he wasn't hiding anything within the protection of the film set. I guess he should have given the crew member's sister couldn't stop blabbing about it.
If it wasn't so well known in Toronto and within the ent. industry that he's gay, I wouldn't have posted. Personally, I think it is disgusting that he and most other gays are forced to choose between fully living their lives OR having a career in the entertainment industry.

^I don't understand what difference it makes. They're actors, they're always playing a part anyway. Who cares if they're gay. And these women who lust after them, its not like you'd have a chance anyway, even if he was straight.

I don't get it either but that seems to be the "thing" within the industry. In this day and age I really don't think it matters; the only fans you'll lose by coming out are the homophobes, and who wants them as fans anyway? Sure you have cut your fan-base in half but... so? Chances are they'll still be getting work.
Anyways, I don't know about Keanu. I hear repeatedly that he's gay but I'm kind of leaning toward him being bi. Face it, most people who see a guy and a guy immediately label them as gay and forget all about bisexuality. Bisexual men do exist. There are both "straight" and "gay" sightings/stories about him so I tend to think he's bi.

So do I but the storytellers just pick one when they share their stories/sightings; thus all the one-sidedness.

I also think Keanu is bi.
And I'm about 99.9999% certain Queen Latifah is gay.

Oooooh. Ooooh. Ooooh. Just...ooooh. Lol, unfortunately it does matter if they are gay or not. A quick glance at any actors IMDB page will reveal to you the warring that goes on when someone cheekily or in innocence starts a "is so and so gay or bi?" thread. The knives come right out from Chief Fangirl AngelCakes00123 or some such motherly overseer and her band of merry women. Times that by a billion.
Plus, it's not just fangirls (although there are lots of cool fans/fangirls who don't care) it's all public image, the fear of being typecasted and how people in the industry will treat you if you come out. All equals loss of dollar, possible loss of career, or that's the theory. Sad, I know.
I think many of these people would be ten times more interesting and challenging to people's perceptions of who could do what if they DID come out or acknowledged themselves as gay or bi. But realistically rampant homophobia exists everywhere, even if people don't understand what they are saying, they quote the bible everywhere. Look at the stupid outpouring which Dumbledore, a fictional character, got from the bible fundies on the Harry Potter boards. There were people saying they'd ban their children from reading HP ever again because one magician was gay and it went against God. Bejesus, and magic and witchcraft doesn't go against God? It was okay up to that point? Total hypocrites. (Plus which I don't believe God, if he exists, has any problem with gays). But if a fictional character gets this much crapola you can see why many actors would be reluctant to venture out. Esp. as religion is so central to many peoples lives.
Unfortunately a lot of people are still quite immature about it all. I agree it shouldn't matter.

I think the problem here is some people being amazed at how many Hollywood players are gay. When you think about it, it's not that shocking. In the western world it has been estimated that approx 1 in 7 men are gay/bi and a little bit less for women. I dunno if this is true but it seems like a genuine figure. Now....add the OCCUPATION of the person and you get a real screw up of the figures. Certain occupations attract more gay/bi people - that it a fact. Hairdressers, actors, artists etc - generally people with creative/artistic bents in their make-up. You at least half the ratio so in the acting industry you can really expect to have 1 in 3. Not so shocking when you think about it. So I guess most of the gossip about actors/actresses being gay are more likely to be accurate.
That's how I see it anyhow - doesn't bother me at all, but just wish middle america and the Hollywood machine would recognise it. That's what keeps them in the closet. Not so much with English/European actors. Look at Ian McKellen
