I just watched Matthew Broderick on Letterman and it was a very strange experience. At first my gaydar was going absolutely nuts but then it got confusing and I found myself thinking maybe he's just an odd, quirky, kind of off-kilter guy. Very dryly funny and obviously smart, but just ineffably weird somehow. Who knows, maybe that lack of conventional maleness he has somehow comes across as gayness at times, because ultimately, he didn't really quite act like any of the many, many gay men I've known either. (His total lack of personal style for instance--I know that's a stereotype but I've never known a tasteless gay man who would wear horrible brown pseudo-Western boots with a drab little gray retro-ish suit, wtf. ) And the affection with which he spoke of Sarah and their kids seemed perfectly genuine, especially in that he didn't overdo it. I just don't know about him now.
