I think some people decide to be gay and other people (that I know personally) say they had no choice in the matter and the opposite sex never appealed to them a day in their life. One guy said "I'm sure I CHOSE to upset my whole family. I would rather be straight.

I see it like: some people are born with big tits, some choose to buy them. And neither group of people are wrong.

I don't really know how to feel about this, honestly. I had a similar "straight-to-gay" pendulum swing, I guess, and I really don't think I would label my younger self as bisexual because liking girls wasn't even on my radar. Of course I use the term now because I realize that my attraction, my capability to be sexually attracted to both sexes is what makes me bisexual. But I didn't always know I had that capability, and for all intents and purposes I was straight. So on that level I see where she's coming from and I agree with Lola.

On the other hand, we are very, very far from anything resembling equality for the LGBT community. Very, very far from it. And I'm not sure if her statement will end up doing more harm than good, but I wouldn't be surprised. Not that it's her responsibility, but if I were her I probably wouldn't have made the statement quite just yet. I don't think she's wrong and I don't think she was wrong to say it, but I also don't think we're there yet as a society, if that makes sense.

    From DListed:
Well, in another interview, Cynthia gets into her sexuality more. Cynthia says that when she was with a dude, she loved that dude with her heart and loved his peen with her poon. Now that she's with the most beautiful lesbian in the world, she loves that woman with her heart, and loves that woman's poon with her poon. But Cynthia doesn't consider herself bisexual, because nobody likes bisexuals. This is a piece of her conversation with The Daily Beast's Kevin Sessums:

KS: Were you a lesbian in a heterosexual relationship? Or are you now a heterosexual in a lesbian relationship? That quote seemed like you were fudging a bit.

CN: It’s so not fudging. It’s so not. I think for gay people who feel 100 percent gay, it doesn’t make any sense. And for straight people who feel 100 percent straight, it doesn’t make any sense. I don’t pull out the “bisexual” word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals.

KS: But it is the “B” in LGBT.

CN: I know. But we get no respect.

KS: You just said “we,” so you must self-identify as one.

CN: I just don’t like to pull out that word. But I do completely feel that when I was in relationships with men, I was in love and in lust with those men. And then I met Christine and I fell in love and lust with her. I am completely the same person and I was not walking around in some kind of fog. I just responded to the people in front of me the way I truly felt.

No because this bitch is an asshole. She admits she is bisexual, but will not use the term because 'nobody likes bisexuals' so it is better to mislead everyone? Fuck her.

So instead of using the term 'bisexual'-which she admits she is, she says she 'chose' to be gay, and gives the anti gay groups plenty of ammo.

And I am sure the (other) bi people will just love the fact that they are 'dumped on', 'not liked' and 'get no respect'. Jeez, isn't that where gay people are coming from(historically)? Why not try to change it instead of basically lying in your stupid statement you bi cowardly cow.

Grimm had it nailed-Stupid bi cow.

she clearly stated that she is aware that for most it's not a choice. she's only speaking for herself. she has a right to say what she feels is true for her.

But her own statement shows that she does NOT feel it is true for her-she admits she is bi but does not want to use the term(because bi's are dumped on, not liked, etc). It is not true for her... that she chose to be gay-she admits she is bi.

She is a liar and a coward.

    this is very different from:

‘I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better.’

i'm not getting the anger or the outrage. it's one woman's experience. she's allowed to define it however she wants and with whatever words she wants. it's like when feminists say something that isn't the 'official' line, and they get shat on by the rest of the feminists for being traitors to the cause and giving the other side ammo. fuck that shit.

I agreed with you, until I saw the new post that had her real ideas about it. If she really felt the way she said in the first post in the thread, I would just think ok, but choose your words a little more carefully. Now I know from her own words in the new post that she thinks/knows she is bi, but just does not want to use that term because it is 'inconvenient' for her, and instead states what is essentially a falsehood instead(a falsehood that can hurt other LGBT people).

It is not that she is 'not towing the official line' or anything, it is that she is basically selfishly lying to make it easier for herself, because she admits she is bi but being 'bi' is stigmatized.

This pisses me off and she is a bitch.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one Sput.

Word. By saying that she's bi but doesn't want to use the term because it gets no respect she's basically a coward. Where's her big anti-bullying, the gay community should include everyone schtick when it comes to bisexuals? Own it loud and proud and help to change the myths about bisexuals within the LGBT community instead of being all, "Well I'm bi but that's not cool enough and no one likes them, so I'm going to say I'm gay by choice instead."

I think its pretty clear she's backtracking because of bullying. read this thread.

    Thank you.
