I'm not shocked, but I think it sucks when people get outed like this. It should be Hayden's news to announce, not EL's.

I hear ya CherryDarling... that's why I do not visit perez' blog anymore, not since mid-2006ish. I just don't like his style, and he seems to be a fame seeking asshole too.

But EL only answered a select dozen, I wonder if he/she is just testing the waters.

But can people sue when its true information? I thought you can only sue when its false information against you.

Interesting point. Not sure of the answer. But lets say that all the blind items are true. If no-one could sue for true stories then there would be no need for them to be blind items. If that makes sense. So either you can sue, or most of the items are bull!

IDK, I wouldn't think so...and if EL is really a lawyer (I question that one...), I'm pretty sure he's got his ass covered somewhere. But like you said, Tom Cruise has sued for years. Hmmm...

You can sue, but you have to affirm that the information was slanderous or libelous (ie, false!) to actually WIN your case. So if what is printed is true, and you know that the publication has evidence, you don't have a case. Thats why these celebs often let things slide, because they know that they can't prove otherwise, and they don't want to draw even more attention to the spoken words.

The truth is an absolute defense to defamation.

However, the law regarding defamation is different for public figures than it is for regular, non-famous people. It's harder to prove against public figures, as an additional element must be met.

I have a theory that the entertainment lawyer is not really a lawyer, but a publicist or someone who would lose their shirt if outed. EL is the only one who comes up with half this stuff.

It's simply outrageous. It could destroy his career (or what's left of it). You know Hollywood, OUT means out (of Hollywood). Sad, but true.
