Ellen Degeneres
Is she gay?
No... that wasn't my question of course
I didn't know much about Ellen before, I was wondering when she came out, and how she did it?

Yes, she is gay. She came out about ten years ago. She dated Anne Heche for awhile;now she is with Portia de Rossi.

I think she "officially" came out on her sitcom in an episode. But I don't remember.

She actually looked alot more feminine there than what she does now- shes wearing lipstick!
I remember hearing that when she came out, people reacted badly, she even lost her sitcom. Any truth to that?

I remember the episode where she came out ... she was in an airport and she accidentally shouted it out over the loudspeaker. That was a long time ago!

My recollection is that she didn't lose her sitcom over it. The show was running its course, and after that momentous occasion it just kinda fizzled out. Fizzled isn't really the right word. And it wasn't jumping the shark, it was something she wanted to do. At any rate, Ellen's a huge success and that's what counts.

I remember after she came out on the show, everything revolved around her being gay; it was like that was all that mattered to her anymore. There was no more story line other than her being gay after that.

That's right. There's only so much you can do for the storyline. I liked her sequel too, but it was formulaic and the same thing, not too much you could do with it.

Am I the only one who dislikes Ellen? I feel bad even saying it because I don't want people to jump to conclusions as to why, which are absolutely wrong. But she's sooooo irritating to me. I hate her sense of humor and when she dances it annoys the crap out of me. I just have never got her appeal with such a huge audience. Maybe people just like her personally? Because as a comedian/talk show host/everything she just annoys me on every level.
