MCCONAUGHEY, ARMSTRONG DENY GAY RUMORS
Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong have denied claims they are gay lovers.
The pair - who are often photographed together shirtless - have laughed off rumors that their close friendship has turned physical.
Matthew joked to Details magazine: "We tried it. It wasn't for us."
"A lot of people don't understand friendship and brotherhood. I have a great friend in him. I'd do anything he asked me to, even though he'd probably never ask me to, and he feels the same way."
Seven-time Tour de France cycling champion Lance - who called off his engagement to singer Sheryl Crow earlier this year - admits he and Matthew had no idea their bond would develop into something so strong.
He explained: "Our friendship just kind of developed. He got out of a relationship and I'd just gotten out of a relationship."
"I think people see pictures and they think we're these overgrown frat guys, but we all have those kinds of relationships - and relationship isn't a bad word."
Lance elaborated: "I mean, we all have buds, we all take guy trips, but you take something very normal and you put it in a magazine, and people start talking."
However, Lance says he's still not over his split from "If It Makes You Happy" singer Sheryl.
He lamented: "We couldn't get it right, we couldn't get it wrong."
"There was just a lot of back-and-forth. But we had a love for each other, and I think we still do."

@ Matthew. Well at least he's joking about it. I can't stand it when men get defensive about something as silly as gay rumors. Who cares?!

Matthew and Lance Deny Gay Rumors
document.write(getElapsed("20061019T145238Z"));Thu Oct 19, 9:52 AMUPDATED 1 DAY 19 HOURS 40 MINUTES AGO
Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong are playing it straight. In an interview in the November issue of Details magazine, the fast friends and frequent workout buddies addressed rumors about their sexuality and denied they were gay. "We tried it. Wasn't for us," McConaughey joked. "It's like, either you sleep with anything that moves or you're gay," Armstrong added. Speculation about the nature of the well-muscled duo's relationship began after they, along with Jake Gyllenhaal, were frequently photographed in each other's company, often shirtless, while off in one athletic pursuit or another. "I think people see pictures and think we're these overgrown frat guys, but we all have those kinds of relationships—and relationship isn't a bad word," Armstrong told the magazine. "I mean, we all have buds, we all take guy trips, but you take something very normal and you put it in a magazine, and people start talking." Armstrong said he thought he and McConaughey became close so quickly because they had both ended relationships—Armstrong with Sheryl Crow and McConaughey with Penélope Cruz—right around the time they became friends. "Our friendship just kind of developed," the seven-time Tour de France champ said of the man he refers to as the Redneck Buddha. "He got out of a relationship; I'd just gotten out of a relationship." In the absence of significant others of the opposite sex, the pals had more time to dedicate to male bonding. "I'd do anything he asked me to, even though he'd probably never ask me to, and he feels the same way," McConaughey said. "It's fun going out and living life and doing things at the drop of a hat. LiveStrong just happens to be the most deliberate guy I’ve ever met." When they're not biking, rock climbing, running or engaging in other sweaty activities, both McConaughey and Armstrong have film projects in the works. McConaughey is set to reteam with his How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costar Kate Hudson in the upcoming comedy Fool's Gold. Production on the film is slated to begin this month. Armstrong will reportedly star as himself in a feature film based on his autobiography, It's Not All About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life. The movie is expected to be released next year.

Actually I'm just confused. For some reason when I clicked the persons response above it looked like a whole new thread. Confusing! And now it won't let me edit my post above that makes no sense. How odd....

Come on now, why can't two guys be close without having to deal with people questioning their sexuality? This is probably why so many men are afraid to even accidentally brush their hands together for fear of being called gay.
And what's wrong with getting upset over gay rumors if you're not gay? Some people actually do feel pretty strongly about it and don't want to be called gay if they're not. That doesn't mean that they must be gay because they're protesting it too much.
Sorry, I don't mean to rant, but I've been labeled a lesbian by a bunch of people (including some ignorant cousins) because I've been seen with a guy before (so that means I must be secretly stashing a GF somewhere, I guess; quite honestly I just think guys and the whole idea of sex is GROSS), because I don't dress or act feminine and because I play a sport other than tennis or bikini beach volleyball. It bothers me because it's not true, number one, and also because I personally don't agree with the idea of homosexuality. No that doesn't mean I hate gay people or am discriminatory. Quite honestly if someone else is gay then I really don't care, it's not my business; I'm sure people think there are plenty of things wrong with how I live my life, but that doesn't make them discriminatory against me or "phobic" about whatever it is I'm doing.
Seriously, why all this "oh they're close, they must be gay" or "oh they deny it so they must be hiding something?"

Because it's gossip and that's what people do -- they have nothing better to do than to question celebrities sexuality or every motive. I personally think it's ridiculous, but I've learned to take it in ease and have fun with it rather than be upset over the stupidity of some people's comments. I can't stand it when people -- who obviously do not know the celebs personally -- assume they are something because of the way they acted in an interview, or because of some BI, or gossip column, or because of a t-shirt they wore etc. It's just stupid stereotyping and that has always bugged me cause it's just downright stupid to do, BUT, this is a gossip board and that's what people do. It can be quite fun (which is why I am still here) so I prefer to joke around with others rather than try to get all defensive.
I personally have absolutely nothing wrong with homosexuality and have said it time and time again. I also would not give a damn if someone thought I was a lesbian because I know the truth. In my experience, all of the closeted people I have known were very uncomfortable with being questioned, whereas, the straight people I knew usually didn't give a damn (like me). I believe that is the reason why most people assume that if someone gets upset over a "rumor" then they must be closeted because normally if you have nothing to hide, a stupid nobody assuming you're gay would not bother you.
Of course, I'm sure there are straight people who just don't like to be questioned (most of them are homophobes) but most people here speak out of generality. Generally, people who are closeted ARE the ones who get the most upset about the questions. Now when it comes to the "denying" thing, I don't think that means they're gay because when celebs are hounded they have to answer the question -- that's different. I prefer to look at the reaction to the question, or their overall behavior and not just the "denial" because they have to say something, otherwise it starts a whole new slew of rumors because they "didn't answer." That's a different issue and like I said, I personally don't do that, but I can see where you're coming from when you mention it.

Ok Bite Me, I do understand what you mean. This is a gossip board, so it's just the nature of the thing for people to speculate. I guess I got a little sensitive because it's a real life problematic issue, but I'm cool now *deep breath, calms down*
lol and I believe MONObolical is in direct contrast to DIabolical.
