Grey's Anatomy T.R. Knight is gay, he has confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE.
"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight tells PEOPLE in a statement. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."
Knight, 33, plays the unassuming Dr. George O'Malley on the hit ABC drama. A Minneapolis native, he began his career in that city's famed Guthrie Theater.
He has also appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Greys Anatomy star says he's gay!
'Anatomy' Star T.R. Knight Says He's Gay
Oct 19, 4:03 PM EST
"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight says he's gay, but hopes people don't consider that "the most interesting part of me." The 33-year-old actor addressed rumors of his sexuality in a statement to People magazine Thursday.
"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight's statement read. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."
Knight plays Dr. George O'Malley on the popular ABC drama. A former stage actor, his television credits also include "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Knight's "Grey's Anatomy" character, a bumbling, puppy-eyed surgeon, has long been in love with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).

I'm confused -- I thought I just opened a topic on this but then it was magically moved to this sub-forum and, I'm just confused. Oh well!
Good for him, even though I still think it's stupid people have to be "outed" because it's nobody's damn business. If someone's gay and doesn't want to say, who cares? If someone isn't gay and rumors are relentless, who cares? People should just leave it be.

^I agree, but better out than in, i say.
People CARE more when they're denying gay rumours and everyone else is certain they're in the closet- eg cruise, travolta, than they would if the person just said, I'm gay. Honestly people talk more when you don't- it kind of ruins their fun when you're open about something.

I have never watched this show. Is it good? Now I feel I should watch since this actor was brave and came out of the closet...just to show support and all. Is this the one who got in the fight recently with his coworker/coactor?

Nope, different actor. However, my guess now that he came out is that he was the one the comment was about
It's a great show, it's very much a "chick" show though, no guy I know can stand it.

Did "Grey's" Brawl Force Knight Out of the Closet?
Posted Oct 19th 2006 4:20PM by TMZ Staff
.home-page-only {display:none;}
"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told PEOPLE exclusively that he is gay. But was this coming out of his own free will, or as a result of the much-hyped fight between "Grey's" stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey?
PEOPLE released a statement from Knight today that said, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."
But the National Enquirer may have tipped us off to the story when they reported that during the fight between Washington and Dempsey, Washington yelled, "I'm not your little faggot like (name deleted)."
The Enquirer said they withheld the name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."
Does Knight's disclosure confirm the Enquirer's story?
Calls to Washington's reps were not immediately returned.
