American Idol winner Taylor Hicks is caught up in a raging gay sex scandal!

The ENQUIRER has learned that the silver-haired 29-year-old bachelor has been the target of nasty homosexual lies on the Internet and in his Alabama hometown.

And behind-the-scenes sources say the malicious gossip nearly kept Taylor from beating Katharine McPhee on the FOX-TV finale May 24 — when he was crowned the fifth "Idol" in front of 43 million viewers.

"Inside Hollywood's Kodak Theatre, Taylor was freaking out that a 'queer smear' would rob him of victory," an A.I. insider told The ENQUIRER.

"First, he blamed a fruity purple velvet jacket he wore. And he was told there were rumors about his sexuality all over the place."

George Clooney mixed with Jay Leno.

Google doesn't show much in the way of Taylor Hicks is gay talk, aside from recaps of the Enquirer story. TVTalkShows.com, which is doing some serious Google keyword stuffing, has this string: video of taylor hicks on live with regis and kelly - qvc black gay video; that accounts for most of the Google search results for "Taylor Hicks gay."

I am friends with the guy...NOT GAY...He was so cheesy on American Idol and totally played it all up for the cameras for votes but he is actually pretty cool..

I love Taylor and they were talking to one of his past girlfriends in People anyway. Not gay. Although I wouldn't care if he was. The People spread is really good, if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

I've met a person who went to high school with him and one that knew him at college and they say he's not gay. And if he is, he's never acted on it to anyone's knowledge.

Taylor rocks! He's my favorite American Idol yet. (Anthony Callea - the almost/shouldabeen Australian Idol is my all-time favorite contestant on any Idol show. I'm still pissed he didn't win

......Sorry - I digress.)

The gaydar doesn't ping for me where Taylor's concerned. He's just a pumped up, goofy, buddy like, sweet, down to earth, incredibly talented guy. And if it turns out I'm wrong and he is gay, it would make no difference to me whatsoever.
