^I wouldn't say a 14 is extremely big. That woman looks like she is a 16-18 in US sizes. Most size 14 girls I know do not look that large unless sizes are different in NC.

I agree. I don't think a UK 14 is extremely big either.

That's a size 12 in the States and Canada. Considering most American women are at least a 14, it's not big at all relatively speaking.

If she wasn't sucking in her stomach she wouldn't look like a skeleton. And if that other girl is really only a size 12 in the US, then I don't think thats that big. This article is really misleading

UK 18 may not sound too big, but since the majority of high street shops I visit only actually stock up to a size 18, it is certainly at the larger end of the spectrum.

is it me or do the size zero chick's thighs NOT go with the rest of her. sure, skinny skinny on top--but her legs look thicker than id expect for a size zero. i dont know. Im a size two in pants always--from jeans to trousers, doesnt matter. I only wear a zero in dresses. But I can NOT fit into a size zero pants unless its some shady brand and my legs are not as solid as her's either her body's off OR theyre playing w the photo
I want to see the diet Mikyla followed to get up to her original size--now THAT would be entertaining

I kind of agree FF. The skinny girl's thighs looks by no means large, but from what I have heard/seen re size 0, they aren't that skinny. Maybe they looked bowed and bandy from the front, but from the side they are just slim legs.
And as for Mikyla's diet, it seems it was booze, carbs, pasta, pizza, ice-cream and bread prior to her weight loss according to this article:
Quote:
Starting weight: 19st 2lbs
Height: 6ft
BMI: 36.8
Target: To be a size 16
Favourite Meal: Anything Italian
Vice: McDonalds McFlurry ice creams
Ex-Hollyoaks star Mikyla Dodd played Chloe Bruce in the soap for four years and is no stranger to losing weight in front of the cameras.
“When I was in Hollyoaks I did a documentary for Mersey Television about weight loss and lost 3 stone in a year. I imagine Celebrity Fit Club will be much more intense in both the time period and the level hard work involved. There won’t be any cheat weeks!
“I weigh about 18 stone at the moment but I’ve been bigger. The opportunity of all the expertise on offer is great. Dr Adam Carey knows his stuff, Harvey’s enthusiasm is infectious and he’s so passionate, I’d be foolish to turn it down.
Having been a fan of Fit Club’s previous series Mikyla, 28, jumped at the chance to represent a younger age group on screen.
“I think as one of the youngest contestants the show has had I may inspire other young people to get motivated. I think the majority of people who have done it before are 30 plus, so seeing someone younger like myself doing it should make different viewing. With my generation there’s no excuse really to be unfit or overweight, it’s just laziness and eating too much.
“I’ve lost weight before and kept it off, but for me it’s always a downward slide as I battle to keep it off and lose more weight. I know I need to eat smaller portions, cut down on alcohol, and change my eating habits. I eat at the wrong times like late at night because of my schedule and lifestyle.
“Being on Fit Club is like holding a magnifying glass up to yourself. You really have to look at yourself from a different point of view and also consider the fact that you’re part of a team like with Weight Watchers or Slimming World, it has the same effect because we’re doing it together. I think the companionship and support from the other team members will make it a lot easier.
And it looks like Harvey may have found his ideal pupil in Mikyla, who is determined to try everything, not give up and make sure her team mates do the same.
“I’m looking forward to the exercise because I’m up for everything. Although I must admit I don’t like watersports and much prefer things like rounders, netball or boxing. Harvey’s circuit training is infamous and I’m dreading it slightly but I know it will be good for me.
“I like to think of myself as a motivator. I hope I’ll rise to the occasion and support other people, and lead by example. If other people are struggling I’ll be the one egging everyone on, encouraging them and supporting them if they’re having a tough time.
“I know I need to eat fewer carbohydrates and drink a lot less alcohol. Ice cream is my greatest weakness, not chocolate or sweets but lots of ice cream.
“My one secret vice are McDonalds McFlurries, the whippy ice creams. They are the one item I secretly eat when I’m on a diet and deny even to myself that I’ve had it. I’ll have been really good the rest of the day and then I’ll ruin it by pretending to myself that it won’t affect my calories at all. I can be known to have one before a burger and after and then be tempted again. I always treat them as a diet version of ice cream.
“My favourite meals are anything Italian like pastas and pizza. I love proper stone bake Italian pizzas. Cutting down with pasta will be a real struggle. I’m totally addicted to Italian bread and olive oil - I can’t get enough of it.”
Since leaving Hollyoaks last year, Mikyla has done a lot of work for children’s charity Cinemagic which encourages children to get into the media. She is aware of the potential instability of a career in acting and feels that her weight has affected her career as directors still cast ‘totty’.
“I’ve decided to do Celebrity Fit Club in my mind for weight reasons and not primarily for my career, but if something comes of it then fabulous. I know it may be seven or eight years until I’m older before I get another crack of the whip in terms of casting and I have to be realistic about it.”

yeah i was hoping for a meal-by-meal recount. After reading Kirstie Alley's book I was shocked by not only what she ate but how much.
Excerpted from How To Lose Your Ass and Regain Your Life: Reluctant Confessions of a Big-Butted Star
New Year's Eve in Wichita, Kansas. Ass size of neighboring state, Oklahoma. Children flown to Los Angeles to have New Year's with their father. Ate massive quantities of Santa-head frosted sugar cookies, cheese fondue, steak tartare, Key lime pie, homemade chicken and noodles, with Cinnabon chaser, and 50 or 60 other mystery foods. Then went to dinner.

they are prolly real when I was a size zero i had bigger thighs that looks about right but the only reason my ribs ever stuck out like that was if i sucked my gut in and my butt never sagged like that it still doesn't lmao.

Articles like this are so weird to me, they only play to extremes. Why are the only two choices they pit against each other are 0 or 18? How about a size 6? Or 10, or 4? 0 and 18 can both be considered unhealthy in some situations, how can one be better then the other? I can see if they where pitting an 18 against a 10, or a 0 against a 6, but this is too broad to make any points.

They keep going back and forth, but I think they're using the US sizes for the headline in the article. It's "Size Zero vs. Size 18", and then the article goes on to say:
Quote:
|
...She has been a size zero (UK size four) for the past two years...
|
So I would guess it's a US size 18 they're talking about as well.
In the other photos of the thin woman, she really doesn't look overly skinny to me. Not very attractive, certainly thin, but not emaciated. This really looks like they shot the thin woman in a less flattering way, and the bigger woman in a more flattering way. I do think the bigger woman has a much cuter face naturally though.
And I agree, what's the use in chronicling these extremes? What exactly are we supposed to conclude? Never mind that most of us probably can't relate.
Oh, and I'm sorry but, "I'm a real woman, I have real curves"? Yawn. We're all real women. This mantra is getting tired.

No it's definitely using English sizes. It's from the Daily Mail, and English newspaper and they wouldn't ever talk about clothes in US sizes because we wouldn't know what that was.
The term "size 0" is only used as a buzzword, meaning 'skinny'. It is the equivalent of a UK size 4 though I have never actually seen one of those in my life, and none of the shops I have ever been in stock smaller than a '6'.
So, um yeh it's a UK size 18, rather than a US.
I agree about the 'real women' have curves comment though.

^^ I thought it must have been English, because of the source, but that quoted line confused me. What is the US/Canadian equivalent of a UK 18?

Are Canadian size 18 and US 18 the same? I would've thought the US sizes were a little bigger than Canadian.
