'even if it's not technically true and we are really referring to volume and density as opposed to pure weight.'

Ah, this is a much better way to look at it. I hadn't really thought about it in those terms, but you're absolutely correct.

This is my shape, too, like an inverted triangle sitting on a rectangle. It makes buying fitted clothing off the rack or formal dresses a real bitch when your shirt size is 2 or 3 larger than your pants size.

^^I sort of have this problem but in a different way. I am narrow and small-boned, but have a large chest. So I have to but shirts/jackets several sizes up but then the shoulder seams hang way down. Because of this I wear a 6 pant and a 10 top. Forget about buying a dress - it has to be separates for me.

With guys, the standard coat size is about 6 inches larger than the waist size of the pants. So, if you wear a 40-inch coat, the pants will usually be about a 34 in the waist. I wear a 40-inch coat but have a 30-31-inch waist, so usually will just buy separates.

I didn't say it was true or untrue for absolutely everyone. Just pointing out generalities

it does depend on a lot more than race but it just one thing I said.

If you're a shorty like me, it behooves you to learn to sew. At the very least, enough to be able to hem a pair of pants or a dress.

That was interesting, thank you for sharing this link! It's funny though... most women with the same measurement as me claim to wear one to two sizes smaller than me, and some wear bigger sizes. Maybe it makes a difference where you shop your clothes?

That is a definite possibility. I wear a size 10 at Express and sometimes a 6 at the Gap. Anything I buy from one of the classier dept stores (Saks, Nordstrom) I'm often an 8. Most of my jeans I buy from thrift stores, though, and I'm almost always an 8 in those, so that's what I go by when shopping

Ideally it would all go by measurement, but its really doesn't, which makes it a lot harder than it needs to be

It's hard for me to match up to girls with my stats, because I am a runner and lift weights 4 times a week, nobody on that site has the muscle tone that I do. not trying to brag, of course. I'd much rather spend my time sitting on the couch with a box of Milk Duds.

    wtf?
All of God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.
