I thought she looked kinda funny when she was at her thinnest. She looks better big imo.

Not everyone is meant to be little.

How on earth do you gain that much weight in a
    year? Obviously it's possible..but omg!
That's big weight gain. Like, all new clothes,
weight gain. I can't imagine the damage to her
body after such major fluxuations most of her life.

Oprahs already tried the personal cook and trainer thing.
I remember her doing a show on it.
She obviously sacked the cook and trainer so she could start stuffing her face again in private.

She really needs to go to OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS.
And see a shrink about it.
I remember reading that she was abused as a kid, became promiscuous and had a still born baby when young.
Her obesity, like a lot of obese people, is caused by other issues just not by a love of food.

No amount of dieting is going to heal the hole in her soul.
She keeps saying that she's cured her ghosts.
(Didn't she go all ga-ga about the book The Secret and how it supposedly "empowered" her? Obviously it didn't.

She needs to swallow her pride and get some serious professional help or just get a stomach balloon and STFU.
She's 55. Does anyone really give a toss about the weight of women that age anyway?

P.S She could very well be menopausal as well which would pack on the pounds.

She needs to swallow her pride
How much weight will THAT make her gain?

Probably not much, since pride is the hardest thing to swallow, then digest afterwards.

See, that's what happens when all the books you read and all of your "therapy" is simply superficial nonsense. She never really wants to scratch the surface of real problems (even though she thinks she's profound) and go to the heart of them, thus, she never solves anything ... and neither do any of her millions of minions. It's just spend, spend, spend your life away ... $$$ ...

Uh, she is 54, not 55 and yes, people actually do give a toss about weight at that age. Especially the person involved or their doctor.

Can you elaborate on this please?

I meant it's not like she's a high profile actress or Pop Star.
She only interviews them. She's just a talkshow host.
I don't think Hollywood or most would care what weight she is as she's just a journalist/chatshow host and isn't under the same kind of pressure to look as skinny as her guests.

And especially being 54. If she was young, I'm sure she'd be under heaps of pressure as an up and coming, but there comes a time in the talkshow game when I don't really think what weight someone is an issue.
It's more about wisdom at her age than her jean size.

Absolutely, and listen when they tell you stuff that you don't want to hear & everyone else is too scared to tell you!

I agree that she might not be built to be super skinny, but a realistic weight for her height, a sensible eating plan and proper psychiatric help - not this Dr Phil bullshit would work for her.

What's funny about that photo is that at her very best, she looked like she does in that purple jumpsuit. There's no way that's a true "after."

No offense to Alice or anyone else, but I have to agree with sluce here.

If I were overweight and had exhausted all my options, and if I thought it could improve my overall health and doctors agreed, I would definitely consider surgical intervention. I have known two people who struggled with their weight for years and finally did gastric bypass. It wasn't a quick fix, meaning they still had to make efforts regarding their diet and exercise, but it helped them a lot and gave them a chance at improving their lives.

but because "being fat/obese" is seen as a lack of will power, I guess that surgical intervention is seen as being "a looser"?

I also have a friend that struggled for years & then had (some kind of) band fitted, she still had to follow dietry and exercise plan thou but I think felt it gave her more "control"?
