Word! I've been on it several times & everytime my stomach becomes a bottomless pit & my face stays puffed up for at least month even after I've gone off it. Prednisone is the devil, but if ya gotta take it, what can you do? Sucks!

I had no idea prednisone did that.. I had to take it for a few weeks when I went blind in one eye because of inflammation of my optic nerve and they prescribed me steroids. I just chalked up the swelling/weight gain to part of the illness.

She looks ok but she has such a neanderthal way of standing.

I wonder if that is to do with her condition?

It looks like most of it has to do with dressing and styling. She just looks more swollen than anything.

Yes, and she had it bad for a while. It also caused her to self-medicate, but I think she is sober now.

Oh man, one of my good friends was just diagnosed with that, it's an awful thing to get. Already she can't touch her palms when her fingers are swollen up.

I would like to chime in since I was on high doses of Prednisone for 2 1/2 years and it took almost a year to wean off of it and then it's taken 7 months for me to finally get almost back to where I was before. About 4 years that were by far the most difficult of my life.

Most people don't have a clue how devastating it can be unless you've lived through these types of dosages. I saw her on TV and I recognized immediately that she was on high dosages of Prednisone for a long period of time. I started surfing the web to find out for sure. This isn't really about weight gain. It's about fat developing in places you could never imagine it. Especially the face but also the neck and the chest and you also get a huge amount of water weight. It does change the way you walk and so many other things, it's devastating. Like I said it's taken me 7 months and I'm almost back to normal. It has nothing to do with how she's eating or taking care of herself in any way. I am so impressed with her ability to not let it stop her, I can't say the same for myself. I pray that she finds an alternative treatment, because unlike my condition, I don't think RA goes away or even into remissions.

I wish that people would realize that not everybody who seems to be overeating is. There are many conditions and/or medications that can cause this. No amount of dieting or exercise can counteract the affects of high dosages of Prednisone over a long period of time. My Doctor and others I've met who have had to deal with it have said there Doctor's told them the same thing.

I have RA also, and her feet look like mine. It is an arthritic bunion, not the kind that can just be shaved off. It is painful!!!!

I feel you. I had to take steroids for a week back in September and literally ate the whole kitchen. You cannot stop yourself. It's kinda scary. I'd hate to have to do steroids long term, though I know I'm going to have to do pulse steroids here and there for the rest of my life. So yeah, people saying its a lack of self control are full of shit.
