It's the same thing she did when John Mayer started to lose interest. She packed on a few pounds and started dressing in empire waisted, unflattering clothes and holding shopping bags and purses in front of her stomach. She also did it around the time of her breakup with Nick.

I think that she was naturally thin at that point, then when she lost the weight for that shitty movie it triggered some sort of eating disorder, maybe bingeing?

Or she just damaged her metabolism with overexercising and not eating enough, I've seen a lot of people pile on the weight after something like that, their metabolism just slows down after each diet and they get fatter and fatter with not eating much at all. This one woman who has been dieting all her adult life is eating something like 400 calories a day, and she's still gaining fat, especially in the stomach area.
