Would yousay the same thing about an anorexic? If she has an (over) eating disorder, it's just not that simple.

Those stories of the gorging after WLS made me queezy!
I thought that counciling was in with the surgery? If both the physical AND mental reasons aren't addressed it's not going to be a long-term success.

i completely agree. my step-cousin just had this done a few weeks ago and he has mental issues as well and some how made it past the psychological evaluation you need to have before getting approved for the surgery. my fear is that he continues to not take care of himself and has some horrible complication. he thinks that his whole life will be magical if he loses all the weight.

I do feel sorry for her. She obviously has psychological issues that she just can't control. I know she had a rough childhood which probably did her in.

Honestly, I have wondered that actually. I was around anorexics and bulimics when I was younger and couldn't really understand it. It seemed like an inability to accept reality. Starvation as not going to give them the body they wanted.

I certainly don't understand these disorders and find it really baffling. Very sad. It must be so frustrating for the families.

I really think they are doing way too many of these WLS procedures.

Can you elaborate on this "view themselves" comment? What do you mean? It's interesting.
In other words, you always think of yourself as a fat person (yeah, it's dealing with the psychological as well as the physical ramifications). I had a conversation with a woman many years ago who had lost about 50 pounds and looked absolutely wonderful. She said that whenever she looked at herself in the mirror, she saw the same fat person she always saw and was actually considering just putting the weight back on because she thought of herself as a fat person.

    Thanks for responding.

Ok, I see what you mean. But it sound like it might be two psychological issues:

1 - the issues that lead to overeating - emotional eating etc.
2- an internal view of oneself as fat and therefore not being comfortable with thin. As in, "who is that in the mirror? I am big".

    Very sad.

Why she got to eat food??!! Just replace it with drinking and drugs...... look how thin it made Amy Winehouse.

I saw Carnie (and the other Wilson Phillips ho's) on Good Morning America today and she is HUGE. I mean, it was just like it was 1995 again, the other two were small and she was big. It weirded me out.

I saw a bit of her reality show. She opened a bakery and was always baking something. It was like an alcoholic owning a bar. She couldn't stop herself from sampling her goods.
