Aw, it looks like Bryce is really trying hard to lose the baby weight. After all, she's carrying her baby while walking rather than just having the baby in a stroller and walking.
Because losing the weight was a fuck of a lot easier (and faster) to do, and maintain afterwards. At least that was the case for my friends who were 30# and 50# overweight. That they didn't have to pay because the cost was covered due to taking part in a study was another bonus.
They have both maintained this loss. And one looks like a damned athlete now because she was able to get back to exercising at the intensity she used to after she didn't have all that extra weight on her joints. You would never know either of these two had a procedure done. (i.e. no loose sagging skin at all for the 'athlete' barely any...and none that shows in clothing...for the other girl).

The fatty on the scooter could have a serious health condition that caused her to live a sedentary lifestyle... Or maybe her being fat caused the issue.. You never know!!
I Bleed Purple-Baltimore and Proud!
I was looking into WLS last year and decided that I needed to try dieting one more time since the WLS specialist would require me to lose 20 lbs before surgery to show that I could stick to a diet. I went on MediFast and ended up losing 115 lbs over 15 months. I've maintained for a little over two months but I'm so glad that I didn't have to get the surgery.
I'm eating regular food just smaller quantities and far less starchy carbs than before.
My two pregnancies started at unhealthy weights and the first I only gained 20 lbs and that was after dropping weight the first 4 months. I think my net gain from my lowest weight was 35 or 40 lbs. I was back to my prepregnancy weight by 4 weeks postpartum. My second pregnancy I didn't lose as much the first few months and ended up with the same net gain of 35 or 40 lbs. The extra weight didn't come off as quickly the second time.
I really feel for anyone who has to put with criticisms concerning pregnancy weight gains.

Even if I got an opportunity like they did, I'd still have to give it serious thought just because it is a surgery, which always carries risks.
I can understand why they jumped on it though. Now if I were 100# or more overweight, I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's no way to live. And I can't imagine how hard losing must be if someone has managed to get this size.

Believe it or not, I can see a good argument for doing it before they get to the point that's usually required. For one, it seems these people are better able to maintain it.
If someone's going to just eat through it again to get back to where they were, it certainly doesn't justify the risks. Yoyo-ing is bad enough for your health when you're talking about 30lbs. Way worse the more weight you're talking about.

i really don't think being 30lbs overweight - or even 50lbs - is enough to justify major surgery. not even if the patient offers to pay for it out of pocket. i know some people get it done but i just can't get on board with something like that. i mean, if it were up to me, i would make it mandatory for even those who do meet the criteria for WLS to have at least 2 years of counselling along with the surgery, so that you're not just addressing the physical side of things. when it comes to weight issues, it really is mostly all in your head and IMO if you're not dealing with the root cause of the issue, there is no point to the surgery.
i just don't think this is a good idea as a preventative measure either. sure, it's easier. but 'easier' is hardly ever the long-term solution to weight problems, especially when you haven't reached the point where you really need the surgery.

Well, there's different types of surgery. Lap band is not as invasive. And surgery itself is way more dangerous the bigger someone is. Not everyone can even get clearance to have it in the first place. I'd think it way less risky, better long term results and more cost effective to bump the lower weight limit down to 50# and not insist that 2 comorbidities be present. Maybe 1 or a family history of, where one or two immediately family members under 60 have been diagnosed (which increases your future risk).

while i can agree with a lot of what you are saying, i can also understand the other side of the argument. not to be contrary (though to be honest i feel i am being a bit like that mohandas poster), what is your opinion on plastic surgery? cuz that is major surgery, and just as (or even more) unneccessary as weight loss surgery.
^^
i think plastic surgery shouldn't be undertaken lightly either. and most of the time i think it's pointless - breast implants, unnecessary nose jobs, etc. but there are times when it is necessary like in the case of breast reductions, nose jobs, chin implants, etc...
minor tweaks i don't have an issue with but when you're talking major surgery and general anaesthesia, people shouldn't be so quick to go under the knife...
also, you can't diet and exercise your way to a smaller nose or breasts (yes, breasts will get smaller with exercise but if you've been 'blessed' with giant knockers, they won't disappear no matter how hard you hit the gym). unless you're morbidly obese and at the point where your weight is making you unhealthy, you can lose weight by eating healthy and exercising.

You can shrink breasts if you decrease your bodyfat percentage.
