Why are they called scratchings? It sounds like scraping the skin and then frying them. Please don't tell me that's actually how it's done.![]()
from Wiki:
"When used as a snack food chunks or pellets of the cured pork skin (sometimes including portions of meat and/or hair as well) are deep-fried and puffed into light, irregular curls, and often seasoned with chili pepper or barbecue flavoring."
YUMMMM! Deep fried skin with hair!
I was so dumb as a kid, I thought pork rinds were made from some type of grain product. I did not know rind meant skin....hahaha
I found out what they really were when I was about 12-13 and I havent eaten any since. It just grossed me out too much!
My goal is to be happy with my life.
You all should watch the John Stewart stand up that he did in 1996, it's so funny. He talks about pork and the Jews and it being unclean and Jesus and eggs and it's so funny. You have to see it to relate but you would die laughing.
Have you all ever heard of a religion that has to eat their dinner in private?
Pork Scratchings..blech! I wouldn't touch those things with a ten foot pole and not because I'm one of those pesky jewish vegetarians, who have that double pig ick thing going on. It's the smell of them!!!! my god, I sat next to someone eating a packet of BBQ flavoured pork scratchings and the smell churned my guts!
agreed. i ate these once when i was on atkins and i felt so dirty after
my mum loves that crap. its so wrong. its eating pure fat half the time. ick.

I didn't know what it was or looked like, so I looked it up in Wikipedia:
In The Netherlands dried pigskins are generally regarded as dogfood and are not considered for human consumption.
I think that says enough for me. And by the way, I am muslim. So I am not into that whole pork-thing either.
I beat anorexia.
I keep kosher. The Bible said that to eat an animal it has to chew its cud and not have split hooves. So that rules out pigs because they have split hooves but do not chew their cud. And it rules out camels because they chew their cud but do not have split hooves. So we can eat cows, sheep, goat, bison, deer. The fish have to have fins and scales. And the Bible lists specific birds that are kosher. It doesn't matter about the feathers. We don't believe that it has anything to do with health or purity. We don't eat them because G-d said not to. The birds and animals need to be slaughtered according to Jewish law to be kosher also. It has nothing to do with being "blessed" by a Rabbi. And G-d also said not to gossip, but here I am.![]()
I have a friend who has ulceritive colitis... which basically means she has a very sensitive digestive system and is limited to certain foods... imagine my surprise that she can't eat foods like potatoes and rice, but she can eat pork rinds!
