Being dangerously big and at serious risk of many weight related illnesses is nothing to be proud of. I am not saying the woman should be stoned to death, but this is nothing to have pride in. Accepting yourself is one thing, being proud of being huge is another.

I hope the obese, fur wearing, absolutely disgusting hog dies a slow, painful death very, very soon. I will dance a jig of glee when I hear of her death!

Seriously overweight women who claim to be "proud" are BIG FAT LIARS!!! I can tell you from bitter experience that they are totally fucking miserable about themselves.

Also, there are a wide variety of people with a wide variety of self-concepts. Just because you were miserable at the size you were doesn't mean that EVERY woman is.

I suspect her self-esteem is so low (hence the over-eating) she simply doesn't care if she is putting her health at risk. It then becomes a vicious circle.

OK - I have a question to all you posters who either are, or have been overweight. And I mean SERIOUSLY overweight, not just a few pounds. Be honest now, did/do any of you truly feel happy about yourself? Honestly. I've been there and I used to bluster about how I accepted myself; how it was all about the person inside, not the outside; how I didn't want to be judged or stereotyped; how 'empowered' I was by being 'true to myself' blah blah blah. It was total bullshit. I was in fact DESPERATELY unhappy, depressed even. My misery about my weight consumed every waking moment. I hated myself.

I suspect that you are projecting. People smoke and put their health at risk-it doesn't mean that person has low self-esteem. Cost benefit analysis. Immediate gratification versus delayed negative consequences.

I beg to differ, but only a little.

If by 'projecting' you mean I am speaking from my own experience of being overweight, then yes I am. I KNOW what it's like and it's horrible.

But once again, that is your OWN experience and not EVERY woman's experience. Just because you were miserable doesn't mean every plus size woman is.

For some people it ain't that horrible. They have accepted themselves.
