Chloe Lattanzi's Anorexia Recovery
"Oliver Newton John’s 21-year-old daughter,
Chloe Lattanzi, has been suffering from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa for two years.
The mother and daughter duo recently gave an interview to the Australian magazine ‘Woman’s Day’, in which they discussed Chloe’s eating disorder and the role Olivier has played in aiding her daughter’s recovery.
Chloe revealed that while she was in denial that she had an eating problem, she is taking very good care of herself now, and realises how lucky she is to be recovering from the potentially fatal disease.
“I have gone through an eating disorder. I don’t hide that. It’s nothing that I’m ashamed of,” said Chloe.
Her mother, Olivier, said parents need to be there for their child if they have an eating disorder. They must be supportive and prepared to listen, and try to understand the cause of the disorder.
Olivier advised: “The parents need to look at why their child has developed such a detrimental disease. And look at the issues causing the disorder. Listen to your child. Be supportive. Eating disorders are usually nothing to do with food. Parents need to be with their child to see them through it.”
Chloe has received help from a specialist therapist who deals with eating disorders, as well as advice from a nutritionist. Even so, Olivier believes: “All the therapists in the world can’t help if the parents aren’t present, loving and supportive”.
Chloe is now concentrating on her recovery and pursuing a music career just like her mother. She has already had a few acting roles and has sung alongside Olivier on stage. Chloe is now preparing to release her debut album ‘Lonely Nights in Paradise’.
Olivier was a good friend of the Grammy award-winning singer Karen Carpenter, who, in 1983, tragically collapsed and died from heart failure due to chronic anorexia at the age of 32. "
The phrase that struck me from Grazia was that Chloe thought it was important to be truthful about her disorder (which I presume is that she's healled enough to admit it?) & she is quoted as saying "I've gone through an eating disorder. I don't hide that. Its nothing to be ashamed of. She admits that she'd been ill for about 2 years but had been in total denial of it.
I hope that she continues to improve., as it's nice to hear of stars/stars' children talking about these things (imo).
(but I also noticed that they'd spelt Olivia's name Oliver all the way through which made it weird...)
