Kate Winslet sues magazine over diet claims

Kate Winslet is hauling a British magazine into court over claims she visited a U.S. 'diet doctor' to slim down. The curvy star - an outspoken opponent of Hollywood's growing trend for extreme thinness - is furious Grazia magazine ran a story claiming she was taking desperate measures to shed weight by visiting a Chinese Healing Institute in Santa Monica, California.
Speaking at last night's BAFTA awards in London, Winslet confirmed she is suing the publication and insisted the fabricated story could set the wrong example to impressionable fans. She said, "I'm very upset. It's categorically untrue, it's a complete lie."
Late last year Winslet spoke of her concern daughter Mia would grow up thinking America's size zero is the norm. She said, "What I resent is that there is an image of perfection that is getting thinner and thinner. It's so damaging... and it frightens the life out of me."

I like her and all, but is it just me or is she like.......always, always, always mentioning her weight? She is a great role model for young girls though. If I ever have a daughter I would definetely want her to look up to someone like kate winslet instead of nicole richie or paris hilton or britney spears

well don't a large percentage of women obsess about their weight?! She's told a lot that she has to slim down for roles. A few years ago she was saying she refused to, but she ended up having to do it.

good point you're right, and I really like her....I didn't mean it in a bad way. I guess she talks about it to A) help people be happy with themselves and B) because she's a woman and we all think about weight alot

Unless you like on a Ranch in hills and plains of Idaho and get your news via radio and your supplies are flown into you monthly - reminders about women and what they weigh and what they should look like is everywhere. It's on TV, magazines, the internet, in school, at the work place, drug store - am I missing anything?
