Default How to motivate partner to lose weight?

I am a fitness freak and my partner is not. I try to influence my partner to work out with me and to eat clean. But, he's just way over not being healthy. I don't want him to get a chronic disease in the future. If you are in my place, what would you do to motivate him?

As a non-fit person myself, I can tell you can't make your partner do anything they don't want to. I myself am diabetic and about 30 lbs. overweight; I know that it would be to my benefit to exercise and lose weight, but I'm just not motivated to. That being said, I also now if I had a loved one telling me over and over I *should* exercise and lose weight, the less I would want to do so...

    Dump him.

Yeah trying to change people on that level doesn't work out. Every "motivational" thing you do or say to "help" him will only read as criticism to him and just deepen his lack of motivation.

If you're a fitness freak and it bothers you this much that he's not, you're not compatible. Let it go or dump him.

Just do my own thing. Trying to motivate others seldom works. It comes from within.

Weird, your dude also wrote in to the lifestyle experts of GR:

I am a normal person and my partner is not. I try to influence my partner to pull the stick our of her ass, relax and let me be and occasionally have a burger and shot of tequila, you know like real people do. But, she's just way over involved in other people's business. I don't want her to have a heart attack bc she thinks that working out 10 hours a day means she's healthy (and she's super high-strung). If you are in my place, what would you do to get her to chill? Or should I just dump her judgmental ass?

Either learn to love a little more cushion or find someone who's a health nut like yourself.
