Wearing Thin - Allure Magazine - January 2006
Interesting article from Allure (not recent, but somehow I missed it the first time around) that details some hows/whys of starlet twigdom. If you don't want to read the whole thing, the nub and gist is that, in addition to the major publicity that fast slimming gets them, one of the reasons starlets are thin is so their stylists can get them designer (size 2 instead of normal clothes companies' size 8) samples for free. Also, the article says that some use/have used a drug (Clenbuterol) given to them by their stylists that is illegal in the United States except for treating horse asthma.

I think it's a competition thing, everybody wants to be the thinnest one on the show or what have you.

i read the article and it's pretty interesting but it's saying that longterm that medication will make you fat and give you heart arrithmea. basically i doubt that this is the number one problem in hollywood bc people like lindsay and nicole are stick thin for longer than 3-4 months at a time, which is the cycle life of this drug.

Interesting article. Thanks for sharing. It all sounds too scary for me. You couldn't even pay me to take any kind of tablet. I am just too much of a wuss. And proud of it!

The thing about Hollyweird is theres no such thing as too thin, and you get praised for weight loss. Skinny=success.

I'm not surprised by that at all because that's the reason runway models have to be thin. Designers are too damn... I can't think of the word right now... but they don't want to have to fit women of all different sizes so they make everything a 2-4. Not to mention, the majority of their clothing is not made for realistic body forms, so the more stick-like the models, the better it looks on the runway.
