Uruguayan model dies on the catwalk

A few days back there was talk about whether Miss Universe's fainting spell after her coronation wasn't due to a lack of food. Apparently, that speculation isn't that far off the mark, as a model in Uruguay has apparently died on the catwalk after having starved herself for several days:

A young Uruguayan model died of heart failure while participating in a fashion show during Fashion Week in Montevideo (Uruguay), according to officials at the hotel where the show was held.

22 year-old Luisel Ramos felt ill after walking the catwalk, fainted on her way to the dressing room and died in spite of the medical attention she received from a mobile hospital unit, sources told EFE.

The doctors who treated her diagnosed her with heart failure.

The young woman's father told police that the model had gone several days without eating.

In Uruguay's close neighbor, Argentina, more and more women are struggling with body obsession. The United States leads the world in deaths caused by eating disorders, followed by Japan and Germany.

A lot of people fast for days for health and religion reasons, and it's not going to kill you if you do it properly.

However, I think she's probably not been eating nutritiously for months on end, and the stress of being in a big fashion show probably took a toll on her heart.

Tall thin girls also have blood irrigation problems - the heart pump isn't strong enough to irrigate the whole system so just being naturally tall and thin can cause fainting spells - I have them quite often and I don't have an eating disorder - this story scares me

Years ago I read a story about a model who would go 7 days without eating,
then on the 8th day she would pig out. The day she died she
ate 2 cauliflowers, 2 loaves of bread and various fruits and vegetables.
They said the pig out was a shock to her system.

It was quite a while before I could eat cauliflower again.

Oh come on, you know that bitch wasn't eating very much before, and then with the show coming up she didn't eat at all. That can cause a fatal drop in blood minerals, and basically your system short circuits because it can't relay electrical signals to organs/muscles.

Yes but as said above there are masses of people who can't eat for days (just because food isn't available for them - or religious reasons) and they don't collapse that way - there is something that made her weaker

Yes, not eat for days.. but being a model means she barely eats anything of substance to begin with. Polished brown rice and lettuce leaves will not keep you in good health.

If you're already starving yourself, not eating for days will kill you outright.

Delphinium has it.. a catastrophic drop in potassium can stop your heart.

Also who knows.. being a model, she might have been into meth or coke or something.
