LONDON - Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightley disclosed a family history of anorexia Tuesday but said that she doesn't suffer from an eating disorder.

The slender 21-year-old, in London to promote "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," rejected suggestions that she suffers from an eating disorder, which surfaced after she appeared at the film's premiere in a revealing gold Gucci gown.

"I've got a lot of experience with anorexia — my grandmother and great-grandmother suffered from it, and I had a lot of friends at school who suffered from it," Knightley said. "I know it's not something to be taken lightly and I don't."

She said she was surprised by any suggestion that she had an eating disorder.

"(The press) said to me yesterday `How does it feel to be called anorexic?' and I had no idea that I was," Knightley said. "I'm not saying there aren't people in the film industry that suffer from it, because I am sure that there are. But I'm quite sure I don't have it."

Knightley, who was nominated for best-actress for her role in "Pride and Prejudice", said she welcomed discussion about the illness.

"In a way it's good that it's out there and that people are talking about it," she said.

I don't think she is either.....she lost WAY too much weight too quickly. Which leads me to ANOTHER conclusion.....*cough*

hum I saw her in "Bend it like Beckham" and although she is definitely on the skinny side she looks healty, and fit. Some people are built like that, I personall have people in my family with thyroid problems, my mom and my oldest sister and my aunt on my dad's size and those people can eat, yet they burn it so fast is not even funny, they have zero cellulite and no stretch marks, so I will give this girl the benefit of the doubt. She is a good actress I think.

She's def hitting the needle, the marching powder and/or the puke-a-torium. She wasn't that thin even a month ago.

I think something is definitely up with Keira. Even if she has a hyperactive thyroid, it's dangerous if left untreated.

She appears Mary Kate Olsenish thin to me. Like just before she went into treatment.

I have to disagree; she did not look like she does now in Bend it Like Beckham. She was slim there but not cadaverous like she is now

Anyone who denies they have a drug problem or an eating disorder to explain sudden and extreme weightloss is practically GUARANTEED to have exactly that.

I’m not sure if she’s anorectic but she always has comments on her body in interviews and seems to be obsessed with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she really were ana.

Look -- here's Keira a year ago, and here she is at that recent premiere:

Here are the problems with that recent event that's caused so much hoopla:

--It's a bad choice for a dress to begin with. A woman with small breasts can look perfectly sexy if she dresses properly, but THAT choice was all wrong. Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, and Charlize Theron all would have looked bad in that dress. Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie could have pulled it off.
--She's standing in that ridiculous hands-on-hips pose, which makes anyone's arms look thinner.
--It was about 100 degrees in London on the day of that premiere. Sweat all over your body will make every feature more defined.
--You can't see her ass or legs, which are where a lot of her weight is centered. There are plenty of pics to prove this.

The bottom line is that Keira has a mentally retarded stylist.
