    Default Forest Whitaker's weight loss

Forest Whitaker shows off dramatic weight loss at New York premiere of his new film

He's always been a hulking figure of a man known for playing larger-than-life characters such as Idi Amin.

But Forest Whitaker, 48, is a mere shadow of his former self these days as the weight continues to fall off his 6ft 2in frame.

The Crying Game and Last King Of Scotland star had a shocked Hollywood buzzing about his dramatic weight loss when he stepped out on stage at last Sunday's Oscars to present an award.

And his shrinking physique was the main topic of conversation yet again as he attended the premiere of his new film in New York on Tuesday night.

Whitaker arrived at the AMC Loews theatre on Lincoln Square with his wife Keisha for the screening of Our Family Wedding, which is released in the U.S. tomorrow.

And the burly frame that has stood the actor in good stead for many highly acclaimed roles was gone. Instead, Whitaker looked gangly and vaguely unwell.

He shocked his fans and contemporaries at the weekend when he sported his thin physique at the 2010 Academy Awards as he came on stage to honour Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock.

And although he spoke kindly and eloquently of her talent, his words were overshadowed by his dramatic weight loss, his smaller frame accentuated even more by the big, thick-rimmed glasses that he wore.
Whitaker directed Bullock, 45, in the 1998 romantic drama Hope Floats and told the Oscars audience that he 'just fell in love with her as person' and her work was 'beautiful'.

Whitaker won the Best Actor Oscar in 2007 for his role as brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland.

For the role, he reportedly put on 70lbs and after filming, he said he 'got serious about diet and exercising' including hiking and martial arts.

The same year, he continued to lose the weight after he landed the role as Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh on US police drama The Shield.

He has also cited his vegetarian diet as a good way to lose weight and avoid health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and several types of cancer.

He has just signed up to play another huge role, this time stepping in the shoes of the late jazz musician Louis Armstrong for the film What a Wonderful World, which he will also direct.

He is also starring alongside Jude Law in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Repo Man, which is released next month.

Larger-than-life: Forest bulked up his heavy frame to play the former Ugandan dictator Idi Armin

I like him better with the extra weight on.

Eh. Not digging that first pic. 5-10 lbs would do him good.

Fantastic actor. I don't like this weight loss too much, his features now look freakishly big, somehow. I hope he's not sick!

One of the best actors out there. And put me in the club who hopes it is his new vegan diet that has caused the weight loss.
