Fearne Cotton shrieks after discovering she's a pin-up for anorexic women

Last updated at 1:15 AM on 10th April 2009 Reluctant pin-up: Fearne Cotton in the 2004 photo used on an anorexia website

With her bright eyes and clear skin, it's obvious that Fearne Cotton is lucky enough to be naturally slim - as this photo shows.
So the TV presenter was horrified to find out that the picture, taken in 2004, is being used to encourage young girls to starve themselves.
The 26-year-old found herself on a 'pro-anorexia' website while filming an ITV1 documentary about how the internet is fuelling the eating disorder.
During the programme, The Truth About Online Anorexia, Miss Cotton recoiled in horror when producers showed her the website.
It featured this picture of her at the premiere of Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. Looking visibly shaken, she said: 'Oh my God, what the hell's my name doing there?
'To think girls would use that is horrific. I wish I could take myself off this website. I don't want to be associated with anything like this.'
During the documentary, which was screened last night, Miss Cotton visited a West London school where girls as young as ten complained that they did not feel skinny enough.
She said: 'I learned loads from those kids but I'm absolutely terrified by how much they know about body image, shapes and diets.
'Girls should not try and look like anyone. Girls, you should be yourself, know who you are and love yourself.'
In the programme, Miss Cotton also attempted an extreme diet - living on just one apple and a cucumber a day - but gave up within hours.
At the end, she said: 'Before, I would ask, "Why can't you be happy and eat?" But it's not that simple.
'I think we need an influx of positive websites that can help girls recover and offer support networks for friendships.'

Shock: Fearne reacts with horror at seeing the old picture of her on the website

Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia have the highest premature death rate of any psychiatric illness: up to one in five sufferers dies within 20 years through suicide and long-term damage.

Cases of anorexia are doubling every decade and about one in every 200 young women is thought to be a sufferer.

The fact that pro-eating disorder websites even exsist is mind boggling.
