It does seem like a SNL skit considering the critical problems our country is facing at the moment. Palin is allegedly uber conservative and really likes moose meat (even if allegedly illegally attained), Aye. Comedy writers couldn't make this shit up and be funnier. I can't wait to watch Jon Stewart and Colbert tonight.

Yeah, I bet the opening skit of SNL will be hilarious!

Clearly, this should be something that should give people pause. Unfortunately, it probably won't matter to some people.
They used google? Seriously?

The FBI confirmed they didn't vet her.

Details Of The Palin Vetting Process
Posted by Vaughn Ververs|
A senior official close to the John McCain’s vice presidential vetting tells CBS News that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin disclosed both her husband’s DWI arrest and her daughter’s pregnancy during the process. In the second part of the two-stage process, Palin was asked to provide answers to 70 questions. According to the official, Palin disclosed her husband’s arrest on the written form and indicated there was one thing she wanted to discuss orally – her daughter’s situation.
Part one of the vetting included the examination of 21 names and involved a public background search, looking at academic, business, financial and legal records in addition to past controversies. Those who were on this list were not aware of it and the official said Palin was not on it initially but added as the list grew. A written report for each of the 21 was presented to McCain and a senior group of advisers. The report on Palin was 40 pages, single-spaced and included "troopergate" and her fishing fine.
The second stage included six names. Each was asked to answer the 70 questions which included queries about marital infidelity, pornography drug use and prostitution. Contrary to reports, there was not an FBI background check. The six finalists filled out the paperwork for an FBI check but the Justice Department nixed the idea because the people who would have access to the information would include campaign advisers, who are not government employees.
Palin also submitted tax returns for more than seven years and prior public disclosures including articles she had written that aren't in the public domain. She also submitted copies of speeches she has delivered, underwent a credit check and one interview with the chief vetter, A.B. Culvahouse. Her report, along with the other five were presented to campaign manager Rick Davis and to McCain - including the details on her husband's DWI and her daughter's pregnancy.
The official told CBS News that the campaign was aware of the investigation into the firing of a state official and a state trooper but that they were "convinced there was no impropriety" after thoroughly researching it. The source said they "spent a lot of time" looking into it.
The official also noted that the campaign has released documents showing that Palin has been registered as a Republican since 1982 to refute reports that she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. As part of the vetting, Palin was asked her to "list all of her political relationships and she did." The source added it was their understanding that she only spoke to the group when they held their convention in Wasilla and she was mayor at the time. The official said it was their understanding that Palin is and was not "active in any other political party."

Troopergate is so ridiculous that I don't think they looked at her closely at all. She DID a lot of improper things such as sending the Attorney General to investigate on her behalf.

Leaving the vetting aside, how'd she ever get on their list at all?

One of his fundie advisors probably planted her name in his head knowing they could steer him towards her since they didn't like his other choices.
It's obvious they didn't do their due diligence and are now getting their talking points straight, it only took them 4 days to do it.

Alaskan blogger: Destination Alaska. They’re Heee-eere.
Alaska State Senate President, and Wasilla Republican Lyda Green

Our sleepy, uneventful state in the upper left corner of the continent has suddenly, strangely, become the center of the political universe. Tourist season is technically over, but media season has now begun, and has brought with it a host of outsiders.
First, is the belated McCain vetting team, that landed yesterday, presumably to fan out across the state, talking to Republican party officials, Palin insiders, and critics, to do some fact finding, damage control, and bargaining. Will Lyda Green, the State Senate President, fellow Wasilla Republican, and harsh Palin critic suddenly stop talking and become the next ambassador to Palau?
Then there’s progressive talk show icon Ed Schulz. He’s hosting a town hall meeting at the University of Alaska in Anchorage. A thousand Alaskans will cough up between $25 and $100 to stand before the microphone and tell the world exactly what they think of Sarah Palin. The show will be played back on September 15th. Should be interesting. And yes, I’ve got my tickets.
Next, are the folks from The Nation magazine. They know exactly what the McCain team is up to, and they will be doing damage control on the damage control, and reporting as much as possible on the back room dealings that are sure to be happening very soon.
And of course, the ultimate vetting team, The National Enquirer, is already here. Who knows, they may have even been here first. We don’t know. They work in mysterious ways. After the Edwards debacle, in which the Enquirer scooped the entire Main Stream Media, and gave themselves a peculiar sort of political ‘cred’, people will be listening closely to what they have to say. These are the folks who have no hesitation getting down in the dirt and asking all those questions that make the main stream media, and most bloggers cringe. It’s hard to draw the line between what’s off-limits and what can be used legitimately to illustrate judgment, and decision making ability. To the Enquirer, nothing is off-limits. They will be busy people… The newest rumors starting to get teeth involve Track Palin and 3 friends being arrested for vandalizing several school buses. Troopers showed up. And yes, this is Mike Wooten’s area. Bus-gate. And despite the admission that Bristol is pregnant, rumors that Trig is not Sarah’s baby persist.
Not used to being in the spotlight, or feeling like anyone is particularly interested in what we have to say, I’m sure there will be many Alaskans perfectly pleased to spill their guts to whoever asks a question. The media will have a field day. Whatever happens with the election, Alaskans will be talking about this for years.
Helpful hint: If any of the media wants to stay under the radar, they’d better not show up in suits, ties, or makeup. Dead giveaway.

From AndrewHalcro.com:

Today I spoke to a person who is as close to the center of the Alaska political universe as there is in Alaska and was told there was absolutely no serious vetting done on Governor Palin.
"I would have heard something, I would have been called and at least been asked to make suggestions on who to talk to and what I've heard over the years," my contact told me.
This seems to track consistently with the questions that have been raised about just how detailed the vetting process was. If there is one thing about Alaska, this is a small state and there are no secrets.

And that small state may be her downfull - it will be hard to cover up her mistakes/scandals. People talk in small towns.

Everything I'm hearing from the dark side is that McCain wanted Leiberman and got shot down by K Rove. Then there was a quick decision for you know who. Not much in the way of vetting. My Dear Spouse has a 1st cousin who worked for Bush 41 (mostly) and Bush 43 (1st term) as a pollster. That's my source. And yes, the holidays are always interesting at our house....
