The New York Democrat made the remark at a fund-raiser Saturday. During an event here for Senate candidate Nancy Farmer, Clinton introduced a quote from Gandhi by saying, "He ran a gas station down in St. Louis."
At first, I didn't understand what the problem was with this comment. I thought she was joking about Gandhi being some low-key person with a small business. Then I realized that the stereotype for Indians is that they all own 7Elevens (gas stations). But, I still find it hard to be offended: it's like she's making a joke about stereotypes, how ridiculous they are.
Whatever. People are sensitive. I guess you gotta choose your words wisely if you're a pol.
Political correctness is getting tiresome beyond words. There are differences between people and there's nothing wrong with pointing it out. I mean, look at Grimm, he's Canadian and all, but at the end of the day, he kind of grows on you, eh?
