Well, nobody actually believes that this is going to happen - well, none of the Christian hicks I know. I can tell you that here in the bible belt that the teachers won't even address why tomorrow is a holiday for the students - they just tell them "it has something to do with Easter". Personally, my son came home and (as an 8year old Christian) was pretty ticked off. He knows more about religion than I do because it is something he cares about. If they were to OFFER (not mandate) this class in a school, my little hick would love it and be the first to volunteer.
I suppose that the reason some don't want to mention Easter or any other religious holiday is that the only religious holidays that result in official, legal days off (as far as I know) are Christian. I mean, the country doesn't shut down for Passover or anything else. It's just Easter, Good Friday, Christmas and then non-religious days like New Years, Labor Day, Presidents Day (Oh, how I miss the days of Lincoln and Washington--long weekends galore).

I don't know if I agree with it or not but I understand the thinking. AFter all, America is not a theocracy.

No worries, I'll be watching very closely...

Buttmunch, frankly, I don't care what they call the damned days, I'd just like a few more longer weekends. I'm a heathen, I'll stay home for any reason!

You can SMELL it. The fact that they're putting forth such a bullshit story as to the reasoning of it raises enough red flags in my mind.

No way in hell I'd let em.
The city's schools here are very important in the sense that they unite ALL people regardless of race.

Since the city gets it's financing from the State, this only helps to strengthen the local community. That's the fundamental view point here.

Grimm keeps going on and on about Fundamentalism.

And I tried to explain what is fundamental on a "grass-roots" level is at our local schools.

What does that mean? That they're trying to get you while you're young?

I took a class once on religion and it came down the Fundamental need to encompass ALL people regardless of race, color, class, etc. Surely, the public schools reflect this thought?

But why does that need or should that need to be taught through the prism of religion and with a tome that is specific to Christianity?

Unless, there are specific guidelines or rules on how to live differently, Christianity is what is uniting <most> of all people right now?

Erm, Christianity, along with a number of other religions, seems to be tearing people apart more than anything.

Strange, I find religion to be quite divisive a lot of the time.
