I live in San Diego and there are NO progressive radio stations. Only PBS which I can't get on my radio and is boring most of the time. No Air America for me, no Stephanie Miller, no Ed schulz..........
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

Limbaugh: The culture -- we've lost the culture, Sean. We have lost pop culture. It is unrealistic to expect the people watching MTV, going to see the rot Hollywood's putting out, listening to the rot music is today, every four years to go into a voting booth and vote Republican or conservative.
ROFL... sorry, but nobody watches MTV anymore. That went out with the 80's. The rest of it is very "get off my lawn, you young bastards"

Secondly, they are not irrelevant and they are no impotent. They have a vast following of mouthbreathing morons who will always lap this shit up because, frankly, they're stupid. They are. There's no way around it. The people who listen to Limballs have no interest in sincere, cogent thoughtful discussion. They just enjoy having their fears tapped.

Sadly, there are LOTS of stupid people in the world and they make up a sizeable voting block in every country. There's no real way to do away with them unfortunately.

It is also very stupid to dismiss them, or ignore them, or think they're impotent. a decade of Bush proves they arent.

I can't remember if anyone on this forum has discussed this, but I am interested in seeing what bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would do to guys like this.

This doctrine, which was done away with during the Reagan Administration, basically stated that if someone (on public airwaves) goes on a political tirade/diatribe, then the station is obligated to give a certain amount of time for dissenting views.

Bringing back this doctrine is an anathema to the Limbaugh/Hannity/O'Reilly conservatives. They wailed about it during the general election, saying that if Obama was elected that they would put the doctrine back in place to force conservative programming off the air.

I think bringing it back would be an excellent way to force the indoctrinated to hear some semblance of reasoning after hours of mind-rotting invective from Limbaugh.

I think it's interesting that they equate equal time for opposite views as 'forcing conservative programming off the air'.

ie: their views are unable to withstand dissenting opinions, it's brittle, it cracks.

We all know the shit they spew is unable to stand up to even the most cursory examination anyway, so in effect they might be right.. but then they just admitted their whole ideology is totally bogus.

The repugs are fighting against having the Doctrine brought back but I think it will return. That should be fun to see pan out.

Even though Obama ought to do it, and I think he eventually will do it, I don't think it will happen for at least a year. I think he is hoping for Republican support (or at least lack of obstruction) on some of the initiatives he's putting through, and if he pushes the return of the doctrine too soon, then it could cause problems.

But I would love to see it brought back. God, that would be funny seeing Limbaugh's broadcast followed up every day with a correction from Senator Al Franken.

And Alec Baldwin can present the other side after Sean Hannity's and Marc Levin's broadcasts. It would revitalize my flagging spirit.

I frankly have NO idea what Limbaugh is talking about with any of that. I mean, does he live under a rock? Seriously? he's never heard a Democrat talking about walking across the aisle? Again, was he under a rock the last few years?

Even if he had heard it, he would lie and say he hadn't. Why are you expecting him to play by normal-person rules. He lies and distorts. That's how he makes money for his drug habit.

Don't worry, they're doing their best to get you some pudding. They may not release the pudding until the post-Inaugural good will dies down.
