I recently gave a presentation at a local high school, in the library, and there was a big sign near the computers that basically forbade anyone with even THINKING about going to Wikipedia because it was so full of errors.

Glad to hear it! It's a classic example of what the Internet doesn't do well -- citizen information is only as good as the expertise of the person delivering it, and that is often questionable.

true i think people need to judge the information themselves before they use it for anything truly important and never fully rely on one source of information. Thats just being slack and close minded in your research if you choose to only view one source. Its written by random people (not professionals or academics). For the purposes of defining chroming its explanation was satisfactory

One of my son's friends gets his jollies by going to Wikipedia & deleting everything. What an idiot.

This entire thread just reminds me of a conclusion that I arrived at long ago: human beings are the ultimate egoists. "Other" = different, which must be bad and/or inferior, because if it's not lesser then that must mean I am....blah blah blah. No one can just appreciate something for what it is, without comparing it. Human nature. Which reinforces my view that we are actually just animals with a cerebral cortex (we can construct buildings, but we still vote for people like W. How smart are we?). The fact that we can't see the incredibly stupid, egotistical shit that we do is what amazes me. It's flamingly obvious, but we still talk and talk and talk and try to explain. God must be laughing or crying. My vote goes for laughing (at this point, are we worth a tear?).

Arthur: You may be right. I can't decide.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, and I wouldn't really classify it as racism either, my brain doesn't work well in the mornings...

But it can be incredibly annoying...luckily, it doesn't happen that often.
