i thought the spokesman for Special Olympics handled it wonderfully. If only the REAL retards, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton (who seem to find wrong in everything) could do the same.

Sarah Palin Slams Obama for Special Olympics Joke

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is slamming President Barack Obama for the Special Olympics joke he made on Thursday's Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

"I was shocked to learn of the comment made by President Obama about Special Olympics," said the Alaska Gov., whose son Trig was born with Down syndrome last year. "This was a degrading remark about our world's most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world."

"These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will," she continued. "By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them. I hope President Obama's comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community."

While bantering with Leno, President Obama said his recent low bowling scores equated to the "Special Olympics."

Realizing he made a mistake, he apologized to the chairman of the Special Olympics before the show aired. The White House added that President Obama realizes it was a "thoughtless joke."

Interesting how she thinks her new kid is more "precious and unique" than her other kids.

I read that the special olympics bowling team offered to show obama how to bowl ... I would die with delight if he took them up on it. My god, that would be so great and would completely turn this on it's head ....

She had her baby for publicity purposes...so bitch please. You aren't the first, and sorry to say and you're probably not the last person who will have a special needs child..

Am I the only one who thinks, this is one of the least offensive things he could have said? Special olympics doesn't always mean retarded.

No, Bush would have used the word "retard", given the finger to the cameraman, and then laughed about killing a hundred thousand people.

    Big difference.
