I think Dubya had more drunk days than sober days.

    In the Dallas-Fort Worth area:
Kids Didn't Hear Obama, But Will be Bussed for Bush

Church questions district's "duplicity" on president talks

    By STACY MORROW

Updated 8:20 AM CDT, Wed, Sep 9, 2009

The Arlington Independent School District, which passed on airing President Barack Obama's live classroom address, has announced that some students will be bussed off campus to hear a message from former President George W. Bush on Sept. 21.

District officials said it's part of a Cowboys Stadium field trip that the North Texas Super Bowl Host Committee invited 28 fifth-grade classes to attend several months ago.

In addition to hearing from Bush and former first lady Laura Bush, the students will hear from legendary Dallas Cowboys players and North Texas business and community leaders. The event launches the Super Bowl committee's largest-ever youth education program.

Students must have their parents' permission to attend, school officials said.

Dwight McKissic Sr., the senior pastor of Arlington's Cornerstone Baptist Church, said he's concerned about the district's decision to not broadcast Obama's message while transporting students to hear a message from Bush.

"I do not understand the duplicity in this situation," McKissic said in a news release from the church. "I believe the students and the public deserve and need to have these differences explained."

Obama told students to stay in school, work hard and set goals in an 18-minute speech delivered Tuesday morning from Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va.

The Arlington school district, like many in North Texas, decided not to broadcast the president's speech live after some parents expressed concern about its content.

The district said the recorded speech would be made available through its Web site.

The school district allowed students with permission slips from parents an excused absence to watch Obama's speech at an off-site location.

Cornerstone Baptist Church was among the facilities that broadcast the Obama's address for students and parents who wanted to watch the speech live.

A Brief History of Communism, from Race Mixing to the Public Option

By: Phoenix Woman Wednesday September 9, 2009 9:16 pm

This bit of hypocrisy shouldn't surprise anyone:
A Texas school which refused to air President Barack Obama's live classroom address is planning to bus students to see the president.

Did school officials reverse course after realizing Obama's speech wasn't political, as conservatives had claimed?

Nope. They're sending fifth graders to see another president: former President George W. Bush, and his wife, Laura. Bush is speaking alongside several Dallas Cowboys players and prominent Texas business leaders.
The people who pushed to censor President Obama's speech, and who habitually call him a Communist or Socialist (and who call the public option "communism") are not only the same ones who approve of Bush and Reagan speaking to our kids, they (or their parents) were running around in the 1960s calling Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a Commie, and holding up signs at anti-civil-rights protests that read "RACE MIXING IS COMMUNISM".

Oh, you say, that was forty-plus years ago! Surely nobody exists today who believes that?!

Why, yes they do, and as Lean Left points out, they write for "respectable" conservative magazines like the National Review, and emit (as Lisa Schiffren did back in 2008) things like this concerning President Obama's white mother and black father:
… Political correctness was invented precisely to prevent the mainstream liberal media from persuing the questions which might arise about how Senator Obama’s mother, from Kansas, came to marry an African graduate student. Love? Sure, why not? But what else was going on around them that made it feasible? Before readers level cheap accusations of racism — let’s recall that the very question of interracial marriage only became a big issue later in the 1960s. The notion of a large group of mixed race Americans became an issue during and after the Vietnam War. Even the civil-rights movement kept this culturally explosive matter at arm’s distance.

It was, of course, an explicit tactic of the Communist party to stir up discontent among American blacks, with an eye toward using them as the leading edge of the revolution.
Bear this in mind whenever you see somebody like Glenn Beck -- the man who was the front operator for the oil-lobbyist-funded campaign to snuff African-American environmentalist Van Jones -- spouting off about Obama and Communism. Or when you see somebody like Michael Barone try to pretend that birthers - people who refuse to admit that Obama is a US citizen and thus eligible to be president - are a harmless minority in the Republican Party, when in fact they are a majority of Republicans, including elected ones.

My kid opted on his own not to go. Never even bothered to bring home the permission slip. Instead, he sat in a study hall class and did a history report that the principal would be grading. My son said that they had to do a history report because everyone thinks the kids who didn't go are racist.

My kid didn't watch it either and I was way disappointed. I looked forward to her coming home all zombie like and chanting Obama's name.

One of my first grade grandkids got to see it at her school and found it very interesting. She quoted to us about he was poor when he was a child and how his mom had to home school him for awhile. My 2 other school-age grand kids at a different school, grades 1 & 4 did not get to see it. They were not even offered a chance to go to another room to see it. This is in Vista, CA a very republican area and full of "fundies".
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

Our schools did not watch because it was the first day of school and kids had half days based on their grade level. It was too confusing. The high school kids were encouraged to watch it on line though.
