Obama has gay people working on his transition team, so how is he showing his true colors about gays?

Although considering that he has gays on his transition team that makes picking Warren an even dumber move.

That's what I don't get.. it's a really mixed message. On one hand, he's all for repealing DOMA and mentions teh gheys all over the place.. then on the other hand, he's against gay marriage and puts this douche in his inauguration.

    PICK ONE.

I think part of it is that Warren shares Obama's view on certain issues like fighting global poverty and AIDS. And I think it's Obama's way of trying to toss a bone to Republicans and those conservatives that think he's a 'socialist.'

But by trying to extend an olive branch to Republicans, he's ticking off people on the left. So, he's going to have to be really careful with how far he tries to appease the right.

I get your point. But this is what Obama said about 'reaching across the aisle' to Republicans and finding 'common ground.'

Plus the Dems are going to need to get some support from Republicans if they want to implement some of their policies to tackle the economy, wars, etc. Because even though the Dems have control of Congress, the Republicans still have enough clout to slow things up like they did with the auto bailout.

Not to mention, the Republicans can slow things up for the confirmation hearings for the people Obama's chosen for his Cabinet.

There's no way that Obama picking Rick Warren is going to be seen by Republicans and those conservatives that think he's a 'socialist' as a way of distancing himself from socialism.

Warren is widely known for his 'social gospel' and 'The Purpose Driven Life' - he's all about charity and poverty. He's even known for 'reverse tithing' in which he keeps 10% of his income and tithes 90%. That's his schtick. He's totally in support of programs those rich old white men would think of as socialist.

Must be all about reaching out and pulling the evangelicals back to the democratic party- where they were years ago. So the gays are off the team. Out of the closets and under the bus

Few American pols will really take the right stand on gay issues. It's a big shame.

Finding common ground with the gay version of the KKK. Yeah, that sits real well.

Obama, for the love of god.. the Rethugs don't give a shit about you reaching across the aisle. They don't like you. They voted for McSame. The next 4 years will see them try to destroy you in every way possible. Stop this mealymouthed bullshit and STEAM ROLL THEM.

THey aren't going to be magically nice. They are going to filibuster everything.

The senate dems are useless shitfaces. Pelosi and Reid are wimps.

Why is it always the gays that get thrown under the bus. Every fucking time.

Attention American gays: you're alone. fight like it from now on. stop giving money to anybody unless they put up first.

Hey, Obama's a politician and he's doing what he thinks he has to do to get the job done. And it doesn't matter whether Republicans like him or not. He's not trying to be liked. He's trying to ward off any potential political headaches from Republicans.

And Obama can't take the 'fuck the Republicans' approach. Because Bush took that approach with 'fuck the Dems' and it blew up in his face.

Plus, some of the Republicans I know were swearing up and down that Obama would take the oath of office with his hand on the Quran, since he's secretly a Muslim. So, the best way to derail some of that crap is to pick some high-profile Christian evangelical like Warren. It won't change too many people's minds, but it's about trying to derail some of that nonsense.

You know what, bullshit. In addition to the Presidency, the Dems have a majority in both houses and are in a position to nominate 2 maybe 3 Justices to the Federal Bench during the 1st term. This was my point a few months back about wanting a REAL, TRUE BLUE DEMOCRAT. Obama does not 'have to reach across party lines'. We won. It's the Dems turn to roll back all this neanderthal legislation curtesy of Bush Cheney. None of this centerist crap. Grimm, you should have smelled the coffee when Jeremiah Wright started showing up in the sound bites. Obama can say until the day he dies that he was not present the day Wright was sounding off on the 'God Damn America' subject, but do you really think in 20 years of listening to that guy there were no God Damn the Homos sermons?

Gays got fucked again...and not in a good way. Typical. Dems take our money, pander to us during an election, then, like clockwork, turn against us...even before taking office. I am not surprised really...at this point in my life I am used to getting screwed over by politicians who never do for me what I wished they would. How hard would it have been to find a centrist pastor to do this...a virtual unknown, a woman maybe? I am so disappointed in Obama; so very disappointed and am slowly beginning to be resigned to sitting in the back of the bus.

At least Str8, in our sport there is such a large chunk of the population gay, it's like the real world should be....exactly normal and completely unremarkable. Are you at WEF or Ocala for the winter?

I don't see why people are so up in arms about this; as a gay man, I know enough to realize that most major religious figures (Warren and the like) are anti-gay, so there should be no real shock from it or no 'he betrayed us' stuff. When you're dealing with religion, there's no real solution that will make everyone happy.

Look, all I know is when WJC took office, the first thing he did was to try to reward the gay constituency, right out of the gate. Better the devil you know....

Bullshit is being a disgruntled Hillary supporter who is just using this situation as a weak attempt to bash Obama because Hillary lost. The fact that you're bringing up Jeremiah Wright, who has nothing to do with this, proves that. I guess Hillary being Obama's Secretary of State isn't enough, huh?

And if I'm not mistaken, didn't President Bill Clinton do things concerning the military that pissed off gays because he was being a 'centrist' during his 8 years in office?
