You've got it entirely backwards. If they're going to treat gay people like that, they shouldn't be surprised that people get upset by their agenda of hatred.

No other group did so much funding and advertising to try to influence the vote.

Are you overgeneralizing or are you just ignorant of the facts?

Let's see... having your civil and legal rights stripped in the supposed 'land of freedom' or having someone accurately call you an intolerant bigot.... yeah, those poor Mormons take all the whipping for the rest!!

They ran an extremely organized and well funded campaign of scare tactics and misinformation. That obviously went a long way in affecting the outcome but it was a close call. And I think it should be overturned because it was unconstitutional anyways.

It was voted on by the citizens of that state. Regardless of whether or not you liked the outcome, it was handled in a legal fashion. There is nothing that says they can't put it back on the ballot again in 2010.

There is some question as to the legality, whether it was a fundamental change to the constitution or merely an amendment.

Still, anti-discrimination laws would come into direct contravention of prop 8 should it pass.. that is if California HAS sexual orientation included in antidiscrimination legislation.

Blech, why is your country so fucking backwards with this shit? Minority rights being decided by a majority vote?

How would that have gone regarding segregation?

Pisses me off. Equality should be federally enforced.

Calling me a fascists is a little strong, don't you think?

I hardly fit in that category. I wasn't saying they were lesser human beings, just that there seems to be a lot of hate directed towards Mormons. And whoever put that issue on the ballot to begin with is the one that started it.
I did not call you a Fascist. Read for content rather than nail yourself to a cross, why don't ya.

You said that the US was a Majority Rule country. Not true. Majority Rule is Fascism.

It doesn't matter who you think are "lesser beings", we are discussing the Mormons who played a pivotal role in Prop 8. Now they are jumping onto their crosses, playing the victims, when it's their own agit-prop and hysteria over gay marriage receives a negative reaction. Tough shit.

Frankly, the LDS should lose their tax exemptions over this (as should all religion, honestly.)

    Becky, Becky, Becky.....

It was handled in a completely illegal fashion.

The CA supreme court had the right to make the decision, and they did. But nut job groups wanted it on the ballot.

Issues like this don't belong on the ballot. End of story.

The vote itself is illegal, given that NO ONE should be able to vote whether a minority can enjoy a basic right. That is completely against our Constitution.

50 years ago, would you have respected a state that voted against allowing jews to marry, or blacks to get an education? I hope not. I also hope that you would see that any such vote would be absolutely unconstitutional.

This is in dispute. Legal dispute.

It should be really simple. It's illegal for the government to discriminate. The people who have violated this code should be in court, not the people who are just trying to live their lives like any [hetero] American does.
