Realtor who stopped a black man from entering his OWN luxury apartment building where he lives in St Louis is fired after video provokes outrage

    • D'Arreion Toles was blocked from entering his own building by female neighbor
    • Woman demanded proof he lived at Elder Shirt Lofts, St Louis, while walking dog
    • After he pushed passed she followed him to door to make sure he was a resident
    • Employers Tribeca Luxury Apartments confirmed woman had since been fired

    PUBLISHED: 06:28 EDT, 15 October 2018 | UPDATED: 08:45 EDT, 15 October 2018

A white woman was fired from her job after she tried to stop a black man going into his own apartment building in St Louis.

D'Arreion Toles said he was coming home from work when neighbor, Hilary Brooke Thornton, physically blocked him from entering the building at the luxury block in the Missouri city.

He posted three videos of the incident on Facebook, appearing to show the woman blocking him from the door as she walked her dog at the Elder Shirt Lofts in the downtown area on Sunday.

Ms Thornton was fired from her job as a luxury realtor after the video provoked outrage.

She lives in the same block as Mr Toles, but her company does not manage the property.

She is seen in the mobile phone footage demanding proof he lives in the building, which has a pool and spa, plus its own wine bar and entertainment deck.

Hilary Brooke Thornton demanded D'Arreion Toles show her proof he lived in the luxury loft building in St Louis

The white woman claimed he had not buzzed in with a key-fob and asked if he had an entrance key similar to her own

After Mr Toles pushed passed her, Ms Thornton then got in the elevator with him and followed her fellow resident to his front door to make sure he actually lived in the block.

When she first encountered him at the communal door she said, 'do you live here? I'm sorry the keypad is right there, I'm sorry I'm uncomfortable [getting out the way].

Mr Toles, who was still standing in the street, replied, 'you're blocking me into my building, it's my building as well, so can you just get out of my way. I live here and your blocking my way. I've already buzzed in'.

While holding a glittery phone and a dog lead and placing her arm across the door, the Ms Thornton was said to have replied, 'I'm not touching you at all, I'm not doing anything other than letting my dog go to the bathroom.

'You just walked off the street and don't have a keypad. You pushed your way in.'

Ms Thornton, who was about to walk her dog at the time of the confrontation, then followed him as he walked towards an elevator and went to his apartment

Elder Shirt Lofts in downtown St Louis has a pool and spa, plus its own wine bar, gym and an entertainment decking area

She then asks him what unit he lives in, to which he replied, 'I don't have to tell you that information, what unit do you live in?'

He simply says he lives on the fourth floor as she repeatedly says 'no' while trying to stand in from of the open door.

As he pushed passed her she shouts 'are you kidding me?' and follows him as he heads to an elevator and asks 'where are you going?' and asks him is he has a key-fob similar to hers.

She then gets in the lift with him and says as they ride in the elevator 'no, I want to see who you are going to see'.

As the pair get out of the lift and he walk towards his apartment she adds, 'I want to introduce myself as a neighbor'.

Ms Thornton then follows him to his door and he threatens to call the cops for harassment saying 'please stop following me, I do not want to speak with you'.

D'Arreion Toles said after the incident police came to his door because she called officers to report him.

She was named as the woman in the video by social media users and confirmed by her former partner, Brandon Mueller, who posted on his Facebook page.

Ms Thornton followed Mr Toles to his front door to make sure he was a genuine resident

She is said to have graduated in marketing in 2009 from Miami University in Ohio, according to Heavy.

In a caption alongside the video, Mr Toles, said: 'To Be A Black man in America, & Come home, women tries to stop me from coming into my building because she feels insecure, Downtown St. Louis luxury loft, because she don’t feel that I belong, never really thought this would happen to me, but it did!

'Then 30 mins later police knock on my door, because she called! I was shocked this is America in 2018!'

After an investigation Tribeca Luxury Apartments in St Louis said it was 'disturbed' by what happened and confirmed the woman was an employee, but that the incident did not happen at one of its properties.

The company added that the woman's position was 'terminated' and she was no longer with the firm.

A statement on the company's website read: 'Tribeca-SLT was recently shared [in] a video containing a disturbing interaction that we believe is important to clarify.

'The video did involve one of our employees, but the event did not take place at Tribeca-STL and did not involve one of our tenants.

Ms Thornton even got in the same elevator as Mr Toles because she did not believe he lived in the apartment building

'The video is showing the employee in her private life at her own residence interacting with another person.

'The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds.

'We are proud of this fact and do not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company.

'After a review of the matter the employee has been terminated and is no longer with our company.

'At Tribeca-STL we want all residents, guests and visitors to feel welcome, safe and respected.'

The video has received more than 4 million views and has been shared over 120,000 times.

Mr Toles told KMOV: 'I was kind of blown away, shocked and like wow. I am just glad I had my camera out. If I did not have my camera out, I feel it could have gone a totally different way.'

He added that he is not upset with Ms Thornton and isn't going to take legal action.

He said: 'I am not mad at her. I am not upset with her. I am not going to go after her legally or anything like that. I wish her the best. I would still have a conversation with her.'

    "I'm uncomfortable"

Oh, she's extremely comfortable. If some guy made you uneasy, you wouldn't confront him, get into an elevator alone with him, follow him.

Seriously, what a psycho. What would she do if the role was reversed and a black man was following her and asking where she lived?

A white woman who called the police on a black man cheering on his son at a soccer game in Florida has earned the nickname “Golfcart Gail.”

It is the latest incident in which a white woman has called the police on a black person despite there having been no apparent crime.

Photographs of the ordeal were uploaded to Facebook by another parent at the match, Ginger Williams, who said the father “was simply trying to watch his son’s soccer game and cheer for him.”

According to Williams, the man had just told his son, “The ref is right!” when the woman “decided to spring into action and rapidly approach this parent and remind him that harassment would not be tolerated.”

Though the woman is yet to be identified, NBC reports that the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed “Golfcart Gail” was a field marshal at the teen’s soccer game.

Even though the father reportedly told the woman that he “was only speaking to his son,” she “continued to harass and beleaguer him.”

“The gentleman offered to leave in order to avoid a situation,” Williams wrote. “As he began to pick up his things Golfcart Gail informed him that she was calling the police because she no longer felt safe with his threatening behavior.”

Another spectator who filmed the encounter, Maria Morales-Walter, told NBC that when the police arrived the woman said that the father “was being aggressive and ‘coming at her.’”

“I started filming because she would not leave the father alone,” she said. “There was no reason for her to call the cops.”

Fraternity President Charged With Drugging, Raping Student, Takes Plea Deal To Serve No Jail Time

    Guardians of Democracy Staff

    Published on October 19, 2018

Jacob Anderson, a former Baylor University fraternity president who was indicted on sexual assault charges in 2016, pleaded no contest Monday to a lesser charge of unlawful restraint in a deal that would allow him to avoid prison, the McLennan District Attorney’s Office said.

The president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Baylor University is accused of drugging and raping a fellow Baylor University student on Feb. 21, 2016.
On Monday, Anderson was sentenced to three years unadjudicated probation and will not have to register as a sex offender, the district attorney’s office said. He will also face a $400 fine and will be required to seek counseling. Unlawful restraint is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to Anderson’s arrest warrant, the victim accepted a drink of punch at a party held at the frat house.

“She became disoriented and felt very confused and was led by a person she met there at the party,” according to court records.
    WXIA-TV reports:

Waco police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said that Anderson led the woman to the backyard where nobody was allowed. Swanton said the victim reported that Anderson took her behind a barn area in the yard and raped her.

According to the warrant, the victim told police that Anderson repeatedly assaulted her until she blacked out. When the woman woke up she vomited on herself, then found a friend at the party who took her to Baylor Scott & White, investigators said. The victim received a sexual assault medical exam, police said.

Anderson was later arrested and indicted.

Abelino “Abel” Reyna with the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney’s Office released the following statement:

“The McLennan County District Attorney’s office is known throughout the State for our aggressive prosecution of sexual assault cases, to say otherwise is simply absurd. Let us remind everyone that our oath is to seek Justice. In pursuit of that ideal, we must evaluate each case alone on its own merit. Early in this case, law enforcement believed that the victim may have been drugged and this belief has been widely disseminated in the media; however, the evidence did not support that theory. This office stands by the plea offered and believes we have achieved the best result possible with the evidence at hand.“

The alleged victim and her parents have condemned the plea agreement and have urged 19th State District Judge Ralph Strother to reject it.

    The Waco Tribune-Herald notes:

Strother ordered a presentence investigation by the probation department and will schedule a sentencing hearing for Anderson in about six weeks. That could change if the judge rejects the plea bargain after reviewing the report. If he does, Anderson could withdraw his no-contest plea and a trial likely would be scheduled.

The victim’s family released the following statement:

“Just when you think the Baylor rape scandal can’t get any worse, today the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office is allowing a man (former student) indicted by a grand jury on four counts of sexual assault (rape) to plea to unlawful restraint in return for dropping all sexual assault charges! This is an absolute travesty.

“By agreeing to this plea, Hilary Laborde and the McLennan County DA office have allowed that rape is no longer a crime in Texas. They are telling the rapists and sexual predators, ‘Go ahead and violently rape, choke to near death and abandon your unconscious, ravaged and used up victim and we will make darn sure you get some counseling. Even if a grand jury indicts you on four counts of sexual assault, we don’t care. Oh and all you rape victims, don’t bother to report it, because we will put you through hell for years, make promises about getting a conviction and lie to you about not accepting a plea the whole time. We will give your rapist counseling and drop all charges and let him go free! We don’t care about justice and we don’t care about you.’

‘We hear time and time again from people that the victims need to report their rape and go to the proper authorities and get convictions or we will just keep allowing rapists to go free and there will never be any justice. Well, this victim did all that! She has had tremendous courage! She immediately went to the hospital. She immediately had a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam (SANE) to verify the rape. She immediately reported it to the police and many other authorities. An investigation was done and the assailant was arrested and indicted on four counts of sexual assault by a grand jury. This victim was told there were enormous amounts of evidence and a conviction was almost sure. And now two and half years later after living through hell, having the trial delayed a week before it was to occur and then never rescheduled, the DA has decided not to bother even trying to get justice.

‘We cannot even imagine what is going on in that DA office. Hilary told us she does not think a jury in Waco is ready to convict someone if this was only his first rape.
“’I have had success in trying college-aged defendants yes, but in retrospect, ONLY when they have multiple victims.’

‘In a prior loss of a case with completely different facts she told us, ‘In short, I think this jury was looking for any excuse not to find an innocent looking young defendant guilty. They engaged in a lot of victim blaming.’”

Disgustingly Racist Robocall Goes Out Against Andrew Gillum In Florida

A neo-Nazi group in Idaho is behind the calls, and it’s gone after the Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate before.

A white supremacist website in Idaho is sending out an extremely racist robocall against Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum

Voters in Florida received the robocall on Tuesday, and HuffPost obtained audio of the recording. Speaking in an exaggerated minstrel dialect, an actor pretends to be Gillum, saying: “Well hello there. I is the Negro Andrew Gillum, and I be asking you to make me governor of this here state of Florida.”

Minstrel music plays in the background, and a monkey screeches occasionally to refer to Gillum, who is the mayor of Tallahassee.

The ad says Gillum’s health care plan will be quite cheap, because he’ll just give chicken feet to people as medicine. It talks about how Jewish people are going to vote for him, because Jews are “the ones that been putting Negroes in charge over the white folk, just like they done after the Civil War.”

HuffPost reader Rusty Gordon noted that the music in the background of the ad appears to be from “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” the controversial ― and popular ― radio and television show that relied on racial stereotypes.

At the end of the robocall, a disclaimer says it was paid for by The Road To Power, a white supremacist website and podcast based in Idaho that sent out a similar call against Gillum in August, when he was running in the Democratic primary. The group has been linked to racist robocalls in Virginia, Oregon, California, Idaho, Iowa and Pennsylvania.

In early September, after the group’s earlier call, Gillum said he wants “to make sure that we don’t racialize, and, frankly, weaponize, race as a part of this process.”

The Anti-Defamation League notes that Scott Rhodes, the man behind Road to Power, is a white supremacist who “achieved local notoriety in late 2017 when police linked him to the distribution of white supremacist propaganda at Sandpoint (Idaho) High School, harassment of a Sandpoint resident, and threatening, anti-Semitic calls that included recordings of Hitler.”

“These disgusting, abhorrent robocalls represent a continuation of the ugliest, most divisive campaign in Florida’s history,” Geoff Burgan, a spokesman for Gillum, said Tuesday. “We would hope that these calls, and the dangerous people who are behind them, are not given any more attention than they already have been.”

Gillum, who would be Florida’s first black governor if elected, has faced racist comments and dog whistles throughout his campaign. The morning after the primaries, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) ― Gillum’s opponent ― went on TV and warned voters not to “monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state.”

“Our campaign has absolutely nothing to do with this robocall and joins those in condemning it,” DeSantis spokesman Stephen Lawson said Tuesday. “In fact, we would encourage the Gillum campaign to join us in rooting out and exposing once and for all those who are behind this disgusting call.”

Even Idaho officials ― Gov. C. L. “Butch” Otter (R) and Boise Mayor David Bieter (D) chimed in against The Road To Power on Tuesday, saying this “kind of bigotry will not be tolerated in Idaho.”

This story has been updated with comment from DeSantis’ campaign and Idaho officials, and more information about the music in the robocall.

Students spelled out racial slur while performing with school marching band

Students at a Georgia high school will be disciplined this week after spelling out a racial slur while performing with the school marching band.
Bo Ford, principal of Brookwood High School in Snellville near Atlanta, sent a letter to parents over the weekend apologizing for the incident, CBS 46 reported Monday.
Ford said that some of the brass instruments have covers that, when arranged properly, spell out the school’s mascot, “Broncos.”
The covers are not normally worn on the instruments while the musicians are on the field.
A group of students, however, rearranged the letters to spell out a four-letter racial slur during a half-time performance at a Friday football game.
Ford condemned the use of the "hurtful, disrespectful and disappointing” term.
“We are a very inclusive community and we care about all of our students,” Ford wrote. “We are concerned that this situation occurred and are committed to taking steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
“In addition to reviewing our halftime procedures, we will also be taking disciplinary actions with the students involved,” he continued.
The band director was not on the field when the performance started because it was also the "Senior Night" event, Ford wrote.
Gwinnett County Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she doesn’t anticipate any action against the staff.

Future of the GOP right here!
