There is no longer any social stigma in getting knocked up before marriage or even being in a stable, longterm relationship so there's no incentive to use birth control let alone practice abstinence. I don't give a crap if kids want to fuck like rabbits (I did) but for God's sake stop BREEDING like rabbits too. The technology is out there.

Our sex-ed was the same when my kids were in school, (in the 80's) in California. Elementary school is still the same as I work in one. That "clown" was probably talking to religious schools. Public schools would have laughed their asses off at him.
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

I'm having a little dust up with my 8th grade daughter's Board of Education curriculum group whose abstinance encouraged sex - ed (which was otherwise exceptionally thorough) included the withdrawal method as a viable birth control option. When she told me that, and then I looked at her notes all I could repeat was no, no, no, no, no, no for about 20 minutes. But the vice principal of her school was kind enough to chastise me for telling my own child that no less than 20% of the kids sitting in that classroom that day would get pregnant or an STI (the don't say STD anymore - too stigmatizing) based on that lecture alone.

I am glad I live in California. I handled my kids sex ed. They knew everything by the time the school taught it. One remained a virgin until marriage the other until graduation, (it was her promise to herself). We are atheists and so religion was not involved. Just respect for yourself and waiting until the right person. However not all parents teach that so schools have to be involved, but my God they need to be realistic.

To all parents: Teach your kids about sex AND birth control. It's your job, not the school. It's in your own interests if you don't wish to become grandparents yet.

^^ No worries there. Every time we pass condoms at the drug store I stop and say "every time, no excuses." We have covered the usual stuff, but have added the very important "Oral sex is sex" and "Masturbation is your obligation" discussions (is it Freudian that when I first typed Oral, I typed :Oral?????) I was overall very impressed with the information that the school has given over the last 3 years, but was totally flabergasted that anyone would consider "withdrawal" as a birth control method, let alone appropriate to even mention to 13/14 y/os in any context other than "you may have heard, it is wrong."
