I live in New Mexico. Pretty sure no one here is going to stop celebrating it.

There is a big divide in the spanish-speaking communities here because many are actually Spanish, families that have been here for 300-400 years and settled this land. They get very upset if you confuse that with Mexican or even "Latino" because they consider themselves European.

Even they celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Same here. I had to move up to my sugar daddy Patron. He's a little bit more gentle and still hits all the right spots! Still, I don't see him often.

Mexican here. Totally forgot it was cinco de Mayo today. Which my mom always scoffed at because it wasn't even celebrated in Mexico, just another excuse-to-drink-fest co-opted by Americans.

Seriously, September 16th and November 20th are the bigger holidays in Mexico.

Last year, a friend of mine went to Tijuana for a few days, and my husband asked her if she could bring him back a bottle of Patron (even in border towns, liquor tends to be cheaper than in the US). She went to several liquor stores, and at one, the guy behind the counter told her she would not find Patron anywhere in Mexico, because it is not a Mexican tequila. He said the company is based in Las Vegas, and the tequila can't be sold in Mexico.

ETA: No long ago, I tried Puerto Vallarta tequila; they have gold (cheapest, a bottle was about $7.99), silver (about $10.99), and Blanco, which at $17.99 was the most expensive. It was surprisingly smooth, considering the price.

I'm Mexican and Spanish so I celebrate everything. Cinco de Mayo, seis de Mayo, siete de Mayo, ocho de Mayo...whatever. I can flip it in a second...tacos/tapas...patron/sangria...paella/menudo....tortillas/pan.
