I will say I am strongly opposed to a federal government who demands that we purchase a service or risk repercussions/tax penalties. At my core I am strongly in favor of voting on important issues at a local and state level. I'd like very much for the federal gov't to stay out of all but foreign affairs. Again, I realize this is not a popular opinion here.
    I agree with you.

I'm a healthcare worker too,and I am far more afraid about the gutting Romney would do to the healthcare system than I am about Obama's plan. Untold amounts of the elderly and sick people I do home nursing for would definitely lose their services under Romney, and would no doubt put my job in jeopardy. Not to mention how many nursing homes would be defunded. Jobs would be lost by the thousands if Romney were to be able to follow through with his plans.

I voted for it too in my first CA election. My head is still spinning from reading through all those props.

This election was anticlimactic for me, the announcement was made 1.5 hours after I voted :-/ The West Coast polls had just closed. I'm so used to waiting around the TV all night until they call it.

I'd like the federal government to stay out of our business too, but alas....I felt like it wasn't going to matter this election. If it wasn't the federal government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong in regards to health care choices, it was going to be the federal government stomping all over women's rights. It's been said before, but either way I felt like we were screwed.

Forcing people to pay for a product by private industry, merely for being alive, seems grossly unconstitutional to me. Instead of single payer supplemented by insurance plans through work, you just got more people forced to buy insurance they can't afford anyway. Under pain of fines. That's ridiculous.

I fail to see why healthcare isn't socialized like a number of other services people use every day.. roads, water infrastructure, sewer infrastructure, power infrastructure. Nobody ever complains about having to pay taxes for that, what's the difference between that and a health care service everybody can use? It's so weird.

Now, doing away with that pre-existing conditions shit (wtf was THAT) is a win. That was just an abomination. What a hideous thing to even come up with.

LOL Grimm - hell will freeze over before the US moves towards anything perceived as socialist.

Bella - we can have a more detailed conversation another time but ----- I support a law requiring everyone to have healthcare. The bottom line is that uninsured people get sick. They don't seek medical care until their disease has advanced. That cost more in care and more in lives. We all know that once they seek care they end up not paying the bill or end up on medicare or medicade so it gets paid through our taxes anyway. If they had healthcare, they would seek treatment earlier. There would be less paperwork because the doctors/hospitals know who to bill. Those who cannot afford healthcare would get free healthcare as they do now. We are already paying for them. Others will get to buy plans at group rates and save.

Obamacare is not perfect but it is a start.

COMMIE!!!!!!!! Haven't you heard of the Domino Theory? If the government offered health care to its citizens, the next thing you know, people will be wanting health care for their toasters!

I couldn't vote, there was a fuck up with my registration since I moved to a new county. I knew it didn't matter though because CA would be a democrat state.

My FB is insane, I have a crazy amount of very right wing religious people on my friends list so they have been ranting and freaking out, demanding recounts, blaming the devil for Obama's reelection and saying the country will end up communist and in the shitter because people aren't following the bible. There are a lot of scripture posts too, lol, lots of Christians and Mormons (plus tea party people) pissed up in my Facebook. Obama voters are quiet.. but they are either a minority on my FB or just not crazy as Romney supporters (who have been ranting for weeks).

Not at you in a personal way but what you're saying with regard to the tax penalties. I hate the idea of being penalized and forced to purchase something (from an absolutely corrupt insurance system.) Our current system is a complete joke; there are people that have insurance but can't even afford to use it due to the co-pays and deductibles being so high. I think any step in the direction of regulating the health insurance industry is a good one and will benefit health practitioners and patients in the end.
