    No, but if you are at that GS level, you will constantly be going up grades and getting cost of living increases. I know people in DC in the private sector with advanced degrees who make that much and don't have grade increases, cost of living increases, or better retirement benefits to look forward to.

    ^ "That GS level"? Not every occupational series in the government has automatic grade increases. The secretarial positions don't have an automatic career ladder the way many professional series in the government do.

    Not every occupation series has automatic grade increases, but most have automatic step increases (which may not occur every year). Both my boyfriend's agency and mine offer step increases and sometimes even grade increases (depending on the position) to full-time non professional staff. I have no idea why you'd stay at the White House at 36k a year living in DC if you don't have the perks other gov agencies have.
