Out of the necessity, Obama has had to switch the focus of his near-term goals from "Change" to "Survive".

Actually he's a smart man. Most of the country is simply not that far left and I do not agree, as an American who lives here, that the liberals are what put him in office anymore than the 'black vote' put him there. Yes, blacks turned out in huge numbers and so did many leftists. However, it was the independents and moderate Republicans who swithced teams that really helped him the most. Also, people were so sick of Bush that this was an ideal time for a Democrat to come along and take over. We have a history of going back and forth like that.

Anyway, he is smart to be centrist and have broader appeal to people on both sides rather than getting the stamp of approval from extremists on either side. This country needs unification and balance and he needs to try to represent everyone, not just those who voted for him. Who knows. Maybe 4 years from now we will have a lot more Republicans voting Democrat because they like him.
    Very well put.

Yeah right, thanks Dubya, while GW's playing ring around the rosie with kids the country's going to hell in a hand basket. At least Obama has the balls to stand up and make a stance. I see plenty of CHANGE in all that he's done to date. He's already been elected President so no need for survival tactics so that's a moot point IMO. He has done more good in a month than GW did in 8 years.
as privileged as a whore...victims in demand for public show, swept out through the cracks beneath the door, holier than thou, how?

I've been amused thus far by all the complaints and criticism when he hasn't even been inaugurated. Uh, we still have our old president you know. Take your complaints to him.
