O'Reilly has been totally wronged on that statement anyway......he said "I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down." The facts are there- the statement is on tape- but of course it makes a better story to say O'Reilly called for her to be lynched.

As to the word nigger, I can speak for myself when I say that I'm not a white person who wishes they could use it, so they make such a big issue out of black's saying it.

I just find it laughable that in a world concerned with equality, that it's ok for blacks to say it and not whites. What the fuck is equal about that? If people want equality, then ALL people have the same rights to language. Nobody owns words.

Blacks have also been shackled, chained, enslaved, hobbled, oppressed. . .are we going to make these words, when used by whites, racist, too?
Considering the number of black people who have been lynched in this country, a white person saying a black person should be lynched is going to get a reaction. Trying to act as if there's some double standard at play is ridiculous.

And your other examples don't even make any sense.

no, they just don't make sense to you...

I see a double standard. I'm disgusted by it. and I'm tired of people perpetuating this double standard while demanding all people be equal. Equal is equal, no exceptions. Any exception automatically invalidates the equality.

If black people can use a word than so can I.

We don't agree on this and that's fine. We don't have to.

As I see it they're WORDS.....and just like lynching was done to blacks so was shackeling....They were kept in chains....... Why is one of the words that describes something terrible done to blacks any worse than others....

That comes off like you want to run around using the N-word.

But here's a perfect example for you. If Michelle was Jewish, and they had said she should be 'gassed' that would be just as offensive. Now, would you turn around and say that 'oh, well the term gassed was used before the Holocaust, so it's just a word?'

Karl Rove is one to talk. Why does anyone still pay attention to what that fool says?

If I wanted to use the word I would, but I don't. No words have been forbidden to me since I learned to read as a child.

I don't wish to use the word- I find it ugly even when it's used by blacks. I just don't want to be told that some people can and some people can't. That's the root of my feelings. If something is bad then it is bad for all, period end of story as far as I can see it. For me that applies to words and anything else in this world.

And yeah, I think people trying to limit the word gassed is silly as well.

It's not actual words that are offensive. It's the context they are used in, and the feeling behind it.

If people want rights to use a word - whether it be lynch or gassed- but want to forbid others from using a word- they are asking not for equal treatment for all, but for preferential treatment, which I don't get behind regardless of who is asking.

That's not true. If a man calls me a "bitch" I'm insulted, if my girlfriend calls me that while joking I'm not offended at all. If you are honest, you will admit the difference.

This is the difference - it's a power play. When a non-oppressed group uses a derogatory word against an oppressed group, it carries more negative charge than if one of the oppressed group uses it against each other. It's about power and su

It's not about the word, per se, it's the context in which the word is used and who is using it.

As a woman, I don't like to hear a man call a woman a bitch. I also don't like when a woman calls another woman a bitch, but it is different.
