I don't really see how he bashed her.
This sounds pretty nice and civil to me:

But I have to have confidence that Gwen Ifill will handle this as the professional journalist that she is.

I think that Gwen Ifill is a professional, and I think that she will do a totally objective job because she is a highly respected professional. Does this help that if she has written a book that is favorable to Senator Obama? Probably not, but I have confidence that Gwen Ifill will do a professional job. And I have that confidence."

Both of those statements sound like he's giving credit where credit is due.

    He's still an idiot, though.

ITA. I think she could do well, but her knowledge of the issues is a problem for her. It's a lot of information to absorb. She could learn it if given time, but she's only had a few months to learn many years worth of policy. No one is that quick a study.

I watched some of her Alaska debates, and the one thing I noticed is that she did the same thing she's done in her interviews. She just rambles on and mixes in the question with her answer, but never says anything concrete. It worked in Alaska because people didn't have any preconcieved notions that she was an idiot, but now they do.

But like McJag said, we shouldn't underestimate her. Because the one thing working for Palin is that the expectations for her are so low, that if she doesn't completely bomb it'll be seen as a good thing.

She tries to answer each question with the question, then she rambles in hopes that we have forgotten the original question.

    It's called self-handicapping, people.

Make an excuse for a future failure. If you fail, you have your excuse. If you succeed, you look like someone who overcame enormous odds.

She will fail. And I will laugh.

I think the nerves may get to her as well.
Unlike the Alaskan debates which was a closed set I think - this is National telly with millions of viewers and its interesting to note it will be modded by a female. I have noticed in her previous interviews she was more relaxed with male interviewers than Couric.

Exactly. And then she ends up sounding like an idiot.

Well, she starts out sounding like and idiot too, she just seems to follow through to the end.

And then McCain has to clarify that if it wasn't for the 'gotcha questions' she wouldn't have gotten 'confused.'

Ooh, Palin bingo...I might print those out too.

I'm looking forward to this tonight. All I know is, this better not disappoint. She better bomb spectacularly, and I'm talking 4th-of-July-grand-finale-type implosion. I will NOT be denied my entertainment!

I printed the bingo cards. My daughter was told to watch for homework for her World Studies Class. At least bingo will make it more fun. Wonder what her teacher will think?

Playing bingo will be safer than the drinking game. My liver will thank me for letting it off the hook!

Well, Ms. Gwen broke her ankle yesterday. Let's hope she's not too deep in the Vicodin.

Maybe it will make her crabby and less willing to take crap off Palin.
